No caulking is needed. The rubber collar slides down over the pipe and acts as a protective water shield on its own, which is why it is a quick fix for a weeping vent penetration without pulling the flashing apart.
2) Can I use a rain collar on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 14207 rain collar is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. On those assemblies use a roofing method compatible with the membrane; the rubber collar is intended for conventional pipe penetrations.
3) Will a rubber rain collar hold up on a B-vent or hot flue pipe?
The 14207 is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and is approved for Type B installations, so it can go on a Type B gas vent. Above that temperature it is out of its rating.
4) What is the Oatey 3 inch rain collar made of, and will it fade or crack in the sun?
It is a rubber collar in black, and the collar material is non-fading. One caution for maintenance crews: keep petroleum based products off it, since petroleum attacks the rubber.
