OATEY 42780 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Oatey 42780 cover plate actually used for?
It hides the access hole for a 3 inch clean-out plug. The plate mounts over the opening in the wall or floor so the clean-out stays reachable but out of sight, and it ships with the mounting screw.
2) Does the Oatey 42780 cover plate come with a screw, or do I need to buy one?
A 1/4 in.-20 thread screw is included, so nothing extra is needed to mount it as long as the clean-out plug is tapped for that size.
3) Is a stainless cover plate worth it over plastic or chrome-plated for a damp or commercial location?
The 42780 is solid stainless steel, both the material and the finish, so it resists corrosion in bathrooms, laundry rooms and janitor closets where a plated plate eventually pits. For MRO buyers standardizing across a property, it is the finish that holds up in wet public restrooms.
4) Why does the Oatey 42780 plate have a film on the face when it arrives?
That is a removable protective film that keeps the polished face from being scratched during shipping and installation. Leave it on while you set the screw, then peel it off.
5) How much does the Oatey 42780 cover plate weigh for a parts order?
Roughly 0.75 lb each. It is a single-piece stainless plate with one screw, so it is easy to carry a few on the truck for callbacks.
