OATEY 42783 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size opening does the Oatey 42783 cover plate fit?
The Oatey 42783 is a 6 inch stainless steel cover plate, sized to cap a 6 inch cleanout or access opening. Measure the opening itself, not the finished wall or floor cut, before you order.
2) Do I need to buy screws separately for the Oatey 42783 cover plate?
No extra hardware to order. The 6 inch stainless cover plate ships with 1/4 in - 20 screws in the bag. If you are mating it to an existing cleanout plug or bracket, confirm that plug is tapped 1/4-20 before you rely on the supplied screws.
3) Is the Oatey 42783 cover plate solid stainless or just a stainless finish over steel?
Material and finish are both stainless steel, so it holds up in damp mechanical rooms, restrooms and commercial kitchens where a painted or chrome-plated plate would eventually rust at the screw heads. That is the usual reason a property manager specifies it over a plated plate for a fleet of buildings.
4) Why does the Oatey 42783 arrive with a film on the face?
A protective film is applied over the stainless face so the plate does not get scuffed during rough handling or drywall and tile work. Leave it on through the finish trades and peel it at punch list.
