OATEY 82037 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 82037 drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch pipe?
Both. The Oatey 82037 general purpose drain body is ABS and takes either 3 inch or 4 inch pipe, so one part covers the two common DWV sizes you'll run into on a floor drain tie-in. Since the body is ABS, solvent-weld it to ABS DWV pipe.
2) What size is the grate on the Oatey 82037 floor drain, and what is it made of?
It comes with a 5 inch brass grate and a round ring. The brass strainer gives you a metal walking surface over an ABS body, which is what you want in a utility room, laundry, or mechanical space where a plastic grate would get beaten up.
3) Is the Oatey 82037 a general purpose floor drain or a shower drain?
The 82037 is a general purpose drain, not a shower pan drain. It has no clamping ring or membrane flange arrangement for a shower liner. Use it where you're draining a slab or floor area, and pick a dedicated shower drain if you're setting it into a pan liner.
4) What is the Oatey part number for the ABS general purpose drain with the 5 inch brass grate?
Order it as Oatey 82037. That number covers the ABS body for 3 inch or 4 inch pipe together with the 5 inch brass grate and round ring, so a distributor or contractor quoting it only needs the one designation.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 82037 drain assembly?
It is listed at 4 lb, which is the complete assembly including the brass grate and ring. Light enough to set by hand during rough-in with no support rigging.
