OATEY 82137 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 82137 general purpose drain connect to 3 inch or 4 inch ABS pipe?
Both. The Oatey 82137 takes either 3 inch or 4 inch ABS, with a 4 inch base diameter and an ABS solvent-weld connection. Drop a 4 inch pipe straight into the hub, or use the inner shoulder for 3 inch. Since the connection is ABS, you solvent cement it with ABS cement, not PVC cement, and not a push-fit or threaded joint.
2) Is the grate on the Oatey 82137 drain metal or plastic?
The body is ABS plastic, but the grate is brass with a round brass ring. That is the combination a lot of specs call for: the plastic base keeps cost and weight down (the assembly runs about 4 lb) while the brass grate takes foot traffic and cleaning better than a plastic strainer.
3) What size is the grate opening on the Oatey 82137 floor drain?
It comes with a 6 inch brass grate and a round ring. If you are replacing an existing floor drain, measure the finished opening in the floor: a 6 inch round grate needs that much clear space at the surface, and the body below it drops into a 4 inch ABS hub.
4) Does the Oatey 82137 drain come with the grate, or is that ordered separately?
The grate is included. Order model 82137 and you get the ABS drain body with the 6 inch brass grate and round ring together as one assembly, so nothing else needs to be specified to finish the top of the drain.
