OATEY 82139 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Oatey 82139 general purpose drain connect to?
The Oatey 82139 has a 4 inch hub base, so it slips over 4 inch pipe and is solvent welded. The body is ABS, which means it bonds to ABS DWV pipe with ABS cement. If your rough-in is PVC, this is the wrong body material for a straight solvent weld.
2) Does the Oatey 82139 drain include a trap?
No trap is part of it. The 82139 is the drain body with the 6 inch brass grate and round ring only. You trap it below with a separate 4 inch P-trap, and if the floor is subject to dry-out you will want a trap primer connection or a trap seal device on top of that.
3) Is the strainer on the Oatey 82139 metal or plastic?
Brass. The grate and ring are brass while the drain body is ABS, so you get a metal walking surface over a plastic body. For a utility room, laundry, or light commercial floor where carts and foot traffic cross the drain, that brass top is what keeps the grate from deforming.
