OATEY 72367 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72367 drain fit 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The 72367 is a pipe fit drain body that takes either 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe, so one part covers the two most common DWV branch sizes. Pipe fit means the body slips over the outside of the pipe rather than requiring a separate hub or clamp assembly, and the body is PVC so it solvent welds to PVC pipe.
2) Is this Oatey drain a general purpose floor drain or a shower drain?
The 72367 is a general purpose drain, not a shower pan drain. It has no clamping ring or membrane flange arrangement, so it is intended for floors draining to a 3 inch or 4 inch PVC line, such as utility rooms, mechanical spaces, and janitor areas. For a tiled or membrane shower you need a shower drain with a clamping collar instead.
3) Can I use this Oatey pipe fit drain on cast iron or ABS pipe?
No. The 72367 body is PVC and is made to join PVC pipe in 3 inch or 4 inch. For cast iron you need a drain with a no-hub or caulk outlet, and ABS needs an ABS body since PVC and ABS cements are not interchangeable.
4) What size is the grate on the Oatey 72367 and what is it made of?
It comes with an 8 inch cast chrome grate with a round top. Cast metal rather than plastic is what you want where carts, foot traffic, or mop handles are going to hit it, and the 8 inch face gives a wide opening for general purpose floor drainage.
5) Does the Oatey 72367 come with the grate, or is that ordered separately?
The grate is included. The 72367 ships as a PVC drain body with the 8 inch cast chrome grate and round top together, so you are not sourcing the strainer as a second line item.
6) How heavy is the Oatey 72367 drain assembly?
Listed product weight is 5.3 pounds for the complete assembly, most of that in the cast chrome grate. Useful if you are ordering a quantity for a multi-family or facility job and estimating freight by case.
