1) What roof pitch will the Oatey 14041 Flex-Flash vent flashing work on?
The 14041 Flex-Flash is rated for pitch from 0 to 45 degrees, so one part covers flat decks through roughly a 12:12 roof. The flexible plastic base is what lets it conform across that range instead of needing a pitch-specific pan.
2) Will the Oatey 14041 flashing fit a 4 inch plumbing vent stack?
Yes, it's the 4 inch size in the Flex-Flash line. The self-sealing collar slides down over the 4 inch vent pipe and seals against it with no caulking, so there's no sealant step after the pipe is through the base.
3) Can I use the Oatey 14041 Flex-Flash on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 14041 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. It is approved for Type B installations and rated 180 degrees F continuous heat, but the torch and hot asphalt work on a built-up assembly is outside what the plastic base and collar are made for. On a hot-mopped roof, use a metal-base flashing instead.
4) How big is the base on the Oatey 14041 vent flashing, and will it tuck under my shingle course?
The flexible plastic base measures 11.5 inches by 13.25 inches, which is enough deck coverage to slide the upper portion under the course above and lap the lower flange over the shingles below. Confirm your course exposure gives you that much room around the stack penetration.
5) Do I need caulk or sealant to install the Oatey 14041 roof flashing?
Not at the pipe. The collar is self-sealing and slides over the stack without caulking. One caution: keep petroleum based products and paint off the flashing collar and the plastic base, since those attack the material.
