Entry is a door entry system that works standalone or alongside either of Paxton’s access control systems, Net2 or Paxton10. Combining door entry with the key features of Net2 and Paxton10. Entry consists of 3 components that auto-detect on set up; external panel, interior monitor and door control unit. Entry is a plug and play solution that comes with a range of panel and monitor options and is suitable for a wide variety of sites. The 2nd generation entry standard monitor comes either with or without a handset, and can be wall or desk mounted. Entry components simply interconnect using Cat5 or standard RJ45 terminated patch cables. Entry can also utilize existing network infrastructure for simple installation. PoE technology runs power and data along the same cable to avoid the need for separate power supplies. A visitor initiates a video call via the bell button on the external panel. Visitor access can be granted via the entry standard monitor, which features an intuitive capacitive touchscreen user interface.

1) Does the Paxton Entry monitor need its own power supply, or will PoE run it?
PoE runs it. The Entry standard monitor takes Power over Ethernet to IEEE 802.3af class 0, so power and data share one Cat5 run and you don't pull a separate low-voltage supply to each apartment or office. Draw is 2.6 W average, 3.2 W max, which is well inside a class 0 budget on a standard PoE switch. Components interconnect with Cat5 or standard RJ45 terminated patch cables, and existing network infrastructure can carry it.
2) How far can I run the cable from the switch to a Paxton Entry monitor?
100 m / 328 ft is the TCP/IP Ethernet extension limit for the Entry system, the normal structured-cabling distance on CAT5. Longer than that and you need a switch or repeater in between, same as any Ethernet segment. Plan riser drops in a multi-family building around that number.
3) Can I use the Paxton Entry system without access control software, or does it require Net2?
It works standalone. Entry runs on its own or alongside Paxton's Net2 or Paxton10 access control, and the three components (external panel, interior monitor, door control unit) auto-detect on setup. One thing does depend on the software: the action buttons on the monitor only function in conjunction with Net2. Everything else, video call, door release, ringtone selection, do-not-disturb, works without it.
4) Will the Paxton Entry monitor fit the back boxes already in my walls?
Backbox compatibility covers UK, Euro and USA boxes, and the monitor can also surface mount if there is no box at the location. Mounting is wall or desk, so a leasing office or concierge desk can take the same unit without cutting in a box at all.

Up to 1000 monitors on a single Entry system, which covers most apartment and mixed-use portfolios on one deployment. Bandwidth to plan for is 1 Mb/s multicast per panel during a call, so the load scales with the number of door panels calling, not with the monitor count.
6) Can the Paxton Entry monitor be installed outdoors or in an unheated garage or vestibule?
Indoors only. The Entry standard monitor has no moisture resistance and low vandal resistance, so it belongs inside the unit, the office, or a secured concierge position, never on the street side. Operating range is 0 C to 49 C (32 F to 120 F), which rules out an unheated vestibule that drops below freezing. The external panel is the component that faces the weather.
7) What else do I need to order besides the Paxton Entry monitor to get a working door entry system?
The monitor is one of three parts. A complete Entry system is an external panel at the door, the interior monitor, and a door control unit, and they auto-detect each other on setup. Ordering the monitor alone gets you the resident-side station and nothing at the door. You will also want patch cabling, Cat5 or standard RJ45 terminated, and a PoE source for each device.
