Net2 plus is a networked access control system. A networked system gives the advantages of central control, event reporting and flexible control over users' access. Each control unit is part of a network but can run independently making its own decisions and remembering events. One Net2 plus control unit can be the network interface to the LAN and also run a wired RS485 daisy chain of other Net2 plus or Net2 classic units, removing the need for an independent TCP/IP to RS485 converter. Net2 plus is available with 12/24V power supply AC DC, power over Ethernet (POE), or trigger disconnect power supply for, which is suitable for fire alarm disconnect. PoE is a technology that allows both power and data to be passed along Ethernet cabling. Net2 plus with PoE simply plugs straight into the existing LAN using a standard RJ45 plug (providing it is powered by either a PoE switch or a PoE injector). Control units are sold as a PCB board only or within a plastic housing. The Net2 plus unit now comes with PoE+ power supply in metal/plastic cabinet; no separate mains supply back-up required.

1) What exactly comes in the Paxton Net2 2 door kit?

2) Do I need a separate power supply or a mains circuit at each door for a Paxton Net2 Plus PoE+ controller?
No. Each of the two Net2 Plus units in this kit comes in a metal cabinet with a PoE+ power supply, and Paxton states no separate mains supply back-up is required. Power and data both arrive over the Ethernet run, so the controller plugs into the LAN with a standard RJ45 plug, provided that run is fed by a PoE switch or a PoE injector. 5) Does the Paxton Net2 Plus with PoE+ support fire alarm power disconnect?

Net2 Plus is offered with 12/24V AC DC power, with power over Ethernet, or with a trigger disconnect power supply suited to fire alarm disconnect, and this kit is built around the PoE+ supply. If the authority having jurisdiction requires power to drop to the lock on a fire alarm signal, that is the trigger disconnect variant of the power supply, not the PoE+ one. Worth settling with the fire alarm contractor before the controllers go on the wall.
6) Why are the readers in this Paxton kit mullion style, and will they fit my aluminum storefront doors?
The kit ships P50 mullion readers, which are the narrow-format version made to mount on the vertical mullion or the narrow stile of an aluminum glass front entrance where there is no room for a full size single gang reader. That is the usual storefront situation. On a wide wall or a masonry jamb a mullion reader still mounts fine, it just looks small. If you need keypad entry rather than credential only, the P50 in this kit is a prox reader, so plan on a keypad reader instead.
7) Do I have to use Paxton readers with Net2 Plus, or can I keep the third party readers already on my doors?
Net2 Plus accepts Paxton Access readers or third party readers, so existing readers on the openings can often stay and only the controller and credentials change. The kit still ships two P50 mullion readers, so if you reuse what is on the door you have spares for a future opening. 8) What happens to my doors if the network or the Net2 server goes down?
