Paxton Net2 – IP Starter Kit for 2 Doors, Low Voltage PSU, Net2 Plus Single Door Controller w/Metal Housing, PoE+ PSU, P50 Mullion Readers, USB Enrollment Reader, Net2 Pro Software, Prox Key Fobs, ISO Cards Less Magstripe

Net2 plus is a networked access control system. A networked system gives the advantages of central control, event reporting and flexible control over users' access. Each control unit is part of a network but can run independently making its own decisions and remembering events. One Net2 plus control unit can be the network interface to the LAN and also run a wired RS485 daisy chain of other Net2 plus or Net2 classic units, removing the need for an independent TCP/IP to RS485 converter. Net2 plus is available with 12/24V power supply AC DC, power over Ethernet (POE), or trigger disconnect power supply for, which is suitable for fire alarm disconnect. PoE is a technology that allows both power and data to be passed along Ethernet cabling. Net2 plus with PoE simply plugs straight into the existing LAN using a standard RJ45 plug (providing it is powered by either a PoE switch or a PoE injector). Control units are sold as a PCB board only or within a plastic housing. The Net2 plus unit now comes with PoE+ power supply in metal/plastic cabinet; no separate mains supply back-up required.

Features:

  • Single door networkable access control unit
  • Plug into a TCP/IP network using a standard RJ45 plug

  • Net2 plus, Net2 classic and Net2 nano control units can be mixed on a site
  • Diagnostic LEDs
  • Flash memory allows easy upgrades
  • Use Paxton Access or 3rd party readers

Paxton Access Inc 682-930-US – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly comes in the Paxton Net2 2-door IP starter kit?
The kit covers two openings end to end. You get two 682-630-US Net2 Plus controllers in metal cabinets with PoE+ power supplies, two 345-220-US P50 mullion readers, one 514-326-US USB enrollment reader, one copy of 930-010-US Net2 Pro software, one pack of 10 692-500-US Net2 Prox ISO cards without magstripe, and one box of 10 695-644-US Net2 Prox key fobs.
2) Do I need a separate mains power supply or backup for the Net2 Plus controllers in this kit?
No. The Net2 Plus units in this kit ship in metal cabinets with a PoE+ power supply, and Paxton states no separate mains supply back-up is required. Power and data both arrive over the Ethernet run, so long as that run comes off a PoE switch or a PoE injector.
3) How does a Paxton Net2 Plus controller connect to the network, and do I need a TCP/IP to RS485 converter?
Each Net2 Plus controller plugs straight into the LAN with a standard RJ45 plug, so no separate TCP/IP converter is needed. One Net2 Plus can act as the network interface and then run a wired RS485 daisy chain of additional Net2 Plus or Net2 classic units off it. That is the normal way to grow past the two doors this kit covers without pulling another network drop to every cabinet.
4) Can I add this Net2 kit to a site that already has older Paxton Net2 controllers?
Yes. Paxton states that Net2 Plus, Net2 classic and Net2 nano control units can be mixed on one site, and a Net2 Plus can be the LAN interface that carries older classic units on its RS485 chain. Existing doors stay in place and report into the same Net2 software.
5) What happens to my doors if the network or the server goes down with Net2?
Each Net2 Plus control unit runs independently. It makes its own access decisions and stores events locally even while it is part of the network, so a LAN or PC outage does not leave the door without a decision-maker. Events are reported back once the connection returns.
6) Will the P50 readers fit on a narrow aluminum door frame?
The P50 readers supplied with the kit are mullion style, which is the narrow vertical format made for mounting on a door frame mullion or a narrow stile rather than on a wide single-gang wall box. That is the format glass front and storefront installers normally want.
7) Do I have to use Paxton readers with the Net2 Plus controller, or can I keep my existing readers?
Paxton states Net2 Plus works with Paxton Access readers or third party readers, so existing reader hardware can be carried over on the controller. The kit ships with two P50 mullion readers if you are starting fresh.
8) How many credentials come with the Paxton Net2 2-door starter kit and how do I enroll them?
Twenty credentials total: a pack of 10 Net2 Prox ISO cards (no magstripe) and a box of 10 Net2 Prox key fobs. Enrollment is done at the PC with the included 514-326-US USB enrollment reader running against Net2 Pro software, rather than presenting cards at a door reader.
9) The ISO cards in this kit have no magstripe. Does that matter for my building?
It matters if your site uses the same badge for anything swipe based, such as a legacy magstripe time clock, parking gate or cafeteria reader. The cards in this kit are Net2 Prox proximity only, without a magstripe, so they will open Net2 doors but will not work in any swipe reader. Sites that need dual technology should specify a magstripe version instead.
10) Is this kit a one door or two door system, and can I expand it later?
It is sized for two doors, and each Net2 Plus unit it contains is a single door networkable control unit, so one controller per opening. Expansion is done by adding further Net2 Plus, classic or nano controllers on the LAN or on an RS485 chain off an existing Plus unit; the controllers also have flash memory for firmware upgrades.
11) Can I get Net2 Plus with a fire alarm disconnect power supply instead of PoE?
Net2 Plus is offered with 12/24V AC/DC power supply, with PoE, or with a trigger disconnect power supply suitable for fire alarm disconnect. The version in this two door kit is the PoE+ build in a metal cabinet, so if your fire plan calls for a power trigger disconnect at the controller, specify that power option rather than this kit.
