PDQ MJ132 Single Cylinder with Thumbturn Deadbolt

Heavy Duty Mortise Cylinder Deadbolt

The PDQ MJ132 is the Single Cylinder with Thumbturn function of the PDQ MJ Series Heavy Duty Mortise Cylinder Deadbolt.

The PDQ MJ Series is a heavy duty mortise cylinder deadbolt for 1-3/4" doors with a small mortise body type prep. It is a deadbolt only, with no latch or lever, so it is typically specified as a second, standalone locking point on a door that already has a separate lever lock or exit device.

The steel case is dichromated for corrosion resistance and throws a 1" stainless steel deadbolt. The MJ is UL listed for 3 hours on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", is non-handed except for the 134 classroom function, and is backed by a ten year limited warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the MJ different from a mortise lockset like the PDQ MR Series?
The MJ is a mortise deadbolt only, with no latch or lever. The MR Series combines lever, latch and deadbolt in one case. The MJ is typically added as a second locking point on a door that already has a lever lock or exit device.

Is the MJ deadbolt ADA compliant?
The standard thumbturn is ADA compliant. The 134LH and 134RH classroom function uses a different thumbturn that is not ADA compliant.

Does the MJ offer an occupancy indicator?
Yes. A vacant/occupied indicator is available, useful for private offices, exam rooms or restrooms.

PDQ MJ132630L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the MJ132 deadbolt latch into my existing deadbolt strike?
The bolt is a 1 inch throw stainless steel deadbolt and the supplied strike is 2-1/4 x 1 inch stainless steel. If the existing frame cutout matches that strike footprint and bolt depth you can reuse it; otherwise install the strike that comes with the lock.
2) Can the MJ132 deadbolt be keyed into our existing master key system?
Yes. Keying options include keyed different, zero bitted with two blank keys, keyed alike, master keyed, construction master keyed, and master keyed to existing bittings, so it can be brought into a system already running in the building. Keyway is also a required selection, with SCC (Schlage C compatible) standard and Arrow, Corbin, Russwin, Sargent, Accentra/Yale, Falcon, Kwikset, PDQ TA and Best SFIC sections all available. Two keys ship per lock.
3) Does the MJ132 take a small format interchangeable core, and whose cores fit?
It can be ordered SFIC prepped in 6 or 7-pin, compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow cores. Large format IC prep is also offered for Schlage cores, and a conventional 6 or 7-pin mortise cylinder is the other route. Core choices on the order include SFIC with a 6-pin or 7-pin core, SFIC less core, SFIC with a brass or plastic construction core, Schlage LFIC with a Schlage core, Schlage LFIC less core, and Schlage LFIC with a construction core.
4) Can I put the MJ132 deadbolt on a fire rated door?
The MJ Series is fire rated and UL listed for 3 hours on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0". It is a deadbolt only, so on an egress door confirm the thumbturn side meets your local egress requirement for that occupancy.
5) Should I use a mortise deadbolt like the MJ132 or a full mortise lockset?
The MJ132 is a deadbolt only, no latch and no lever, so it is normally added as a second locking point above a door that already has a lever lock or an exit device. If you want lever, latch and deadbolt in one case, go to a mortise lockset such as the PDQ MR Series instead. The MJ also uses a small mortise body prep, a smaller pocket than a full mortise lock.
6) Do I need to specify handing for the PDQ MJ132?
No. The MJ132 single cylinder with thumbturn is non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand openings. Handing only comes up on the 134 classroom function, which is ordered as 134LH or 134RH.
7) Is the thumbturn on the MJ132 ADA compliant?
The standard thumbturn used on the MJ132 is ADA compliant. The exception in the series is the 134 classroom function, whose thumbturn differs and is not ADA compliant.
8) Can I order the MJ132 without a cylinder so our locksmith supplies the core?
Yes. Less cylinder is an option, as are SFIC prep less core and Schlage LFIC prep less core. Construction core versions (brass or plastic) are also available if you need the opening secured during the build and rekeyed at turnover.
9) Can I get a restroom occupancy indicator with the PDQ MJ deadbolt?
Yes, a vacant/occupied indicator is available on the MJ Series, which is what gets specified on single occupancy restrooms, exam rooms and private offices where someone outside needs to know the room is in use.
10) What finishes does the PDQ MJ132 come in, and will it match the rest of our stainless hardware?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, 629 bright stainless steel and 630 satin stainless steel. For a building standardized on US32D/satin stainless trim, 630 is the match.
11) Will the MJ132 deadbolt hold up on an exterior or damp opening?
The case is steel with a dichromate coating for corrosion resistance, and both the 1 inch bolt and the strike are stainless steel. It is a commercial duty device, and it is also TAA compliant, which matters on federal and military work.
