The PDQ MJ134 is the Single Cylinder function of the PDQ MJ Series Heavy Duty Mortise Cylinder Deadbolt.
The PDQ MJ Series is a heavy duty mortise cylinder deadbolt for 1-3/4" doors with a small mortise body type prep. It is a deadbolt only, with no latch or lever, so it is typically specified as a second, standalone locking point on a door that already has a separate lever lock or exit device.
The steel case is dichromated for corrosion resistance and throws a 1" stainless steel deadbolt. The MJ is UL listed for 3 hours on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", is non-handed except for the 134 classroom function, and is backed by a ten year limited warranty.

1) Do I have to specify a hand when ordering a PDQ MJ134 classroom deadbolt?
Yes. The MJ Series is non-handed in every function except the 134 classroom function, which is ordered as 134LH or 134RH. Both left hand and right hand are offered, and the two use different thumbturns, so the hand has to be determined at the door before the order goes in.
2) Is the classroom function PDQ MJ134 thumbturn ADA compliant?
No. The standard MJ thumbturn is ADA compliant, but the 134LH and 134RH classroom thumbturn differs from standard and is not ADA compliant. If the opening has to meet ADA operable-hardware requirements, specify a different MJ function rather than the 134.
3) Can I put a PDQ MJ134 deadbolt on a fire rated door?
Yes. The MJ Series mortise deadbolt is UL listed for 3 hours on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0". Pairs and larger leaves are outside that listing.
4) Can the MJ134 be keyed into our existing master key system?
Yes. Keying options include keyed different, zero bitted with blank keys, keyed alike in 2, 3-4 or 5-plus groups, master keyed, construction master keyed, and master keyed to existing bittings, which is the option for folding it into a system already in the building. SCC (Schlage C compatible) is the standard keyway, and 42 keyway choices are offered including Arrow, Corbin, Russwin, Sargent, Accentra (Yale), Falcon, Kwikset, Schlage and the Best SFIC families. Two keys come per lock.
5) Do I order the MJ134 with a cylinder, or less cylinder for our own cores?
Both. Ten cylinder choices are offered: conventional cylinder, less cylinder, SFIC prep with a 6-pin or 7-pin core, SFIC prep less core, SFIC prep with a brass or plastic construction core, Schlage LFIC prep with a Schlage core, LFIC prep less core, and LFIC prep with a construction core. The small format IC preps take Best, Falcon and Arrow compatible cores; the large format prep takes Schlage. If your locksmith stocks cores, order the less-core prep.
6) Should I use a PDQ MJ134 mortise deadbolt or a mortise lockset with a lever?
The MJ134 is a deadbolt only, no latch and no lever, so it cannot be the sole hardware on a door people need to pass through freely. It is specified as a second, standalone locking point on an opening that already has a lever lock or an exit device. If you need lever, latch and deadbolt in one case, the PDQ MR Series mortise lockset is the one to spec.
7) Will the MJ134 deadbolt latch into the strike already in my frame?
The bolt throws 1 inch of stainless steel and ships with a 2-1/4 x 1 inch stainless strike. If the existing frame has a deadbolt strike cut for a different size opening, plan on using the supplied strike and verifying the frame cutout matches, since a 1 inch throw needs full engagement to hold.
8) Is there a restroom occupancy indicator option for the MJ deadbolt?
Yes, a vacant/occupied indicator is available on the MJ Series, which is what you want on private offices, exam rooms and single-occupant restrooms. The steel case is dichromated for corrosion resistance, which helps in wet restroom environments.
9) Can I get a replacement thumbturn for a PDQ MJ134 classroom deadbolt?
Yes, and it is hand specific: MJ522-01 for the 134RH and MJ523-01 for the 134LH, in 630 satin stainless. Order to match the hand of the lock already in the door.
