PDQ SD182 Grade 2 Entry Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 2 Standard Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ SD182 is the Entry function (ANSI/BHMA F82) of the PDQ SD Series Grade 2 Standard Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ SD Series is a Grade 2 cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2, value engineered for commercial doors. Its locking mechanism is heavy gauge cold rolled steel, dichromated for corrosion resistance, and it installs with removable thru-bolts on standard 160 and 161 door preps.

The SD offers the widest backset range in PDQ's Grade 2 lineup and five solid diecast lever styles: Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Memphis and Orlando. It is non-handed except with the Memphis lever, fits doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, and carries a five year limited warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the SD different from PDQ's other Grade 2 locks?
The SD offers the widest backset range in PDQ's Grade 2 lineup (2-3/8", 2-3/4", 3-3/4" and 5") and five lever styles, more than the GP or SF Grade 2 lines.

Can the SD accept a high security cylinder?
Yes. High security cylinders are available for the SD in addition to the standard 6-pin SCC cylinder, for added pick and drill resistance on a Grade 2 lock.

Does the SD work with an electric strike?
Yes. Its standard ASA strike prep works with electric strikes, which is useful when a door needs remote release without electrifying the lock itself.

PDQ SD182ORL626D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ SD182 entry lever fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or is it only for 1-3/4?
Both. The SD182 covers doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick and ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a thinner door means adjusting the chassis at install rather than ordering a different lock. It goes into standard 160 or 161 bored prep and secures with removable thru-bolts.
2) Do I have to specify handing on the PDQ SD182?
Only if you pick the Memphis lever. The SD182 is non-handed with the Philadelphia, Boston, Miami and Orlando levers, so one lock covers either swing. Memphis is handed, which means a left hand or right hand call on the order. Handing is a required selection on the order form regardless, so you choose Non-Handed, LH or RH.
3) Can I key the SD182 into my existing Schlage C master key system?
Yes. SCC keyway (Schlage C compatible) is standard on the SD182, and other manufacturers' keyways are available. Keying options on the order include keyed different, keyed alike in groups, 0-bitted with two blank keys, master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, and construction master keyed. Each lock comes with two keys.
4) Does the PDQ SD182 take small format interchangeable cores from a Best or Falcon system?
It does. The SD182 is available with SFIC prep for 6-pin or 7-pin cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow. One exception worth knowing: SFIC is not available with the Memphis lever. If you run Schlage large format IC instead, that prep is offered on the Philadelphia lever only. You can also order it less core or with a brass or plastic construction core for a jobsite.
5) Is the PDQ SD182 approved for a 3 hour fire rated door?
Yes. The SD182 is UL listed for 3 hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0". It also complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1, and it is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2.
6) Will the SD182 latch into the strike plate already in my frame?
The latchbolt has a 1/2 inch throw, which is standard for a cylindrical lock, so it will drop into an existing cylindrical strike of the usual depth. ASA strike (1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch) is the standard supply; if your frames are prepped for the smaller plate, order the T-strike at 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inch, or the full lip strike at 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 inch. A dust box is an available option for new frame prep.
7) What does the F82 entry function actually do on the door?
F82 is the standard commercial entry function: the outside lever is locked or unlocked by key, and the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. It is a single cylinder lock, so there is one keyed side. That is the right function for a tenant suite entry, an office, or a stairwell door where you need to lock the outside and never block people getting out.
8) Is a Grade 2 lock like the PDQ SD182 enough for my apartment building corridors?
The SD182 is a Grade 2 standard duty commercial lock, built for commercial openings rather than residential use, with a heavy gauge cold rolled steel mechanism that is dichromated against corrosion. That suits multi-family unit entries, offices and light to moderate traffic commercial doors. For high cycle openings like a school main entrance or a busy retail door, step up to a Grade 1 cylindrical lock instead.
9) Can I get the SD182 to match the brass hardware already on my other doors?
Five finishes are offered on the SD182: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black and 626 satin chrome. For bright brass go 605, for a brushed brass look 606. If you need the inside and outside in different finishes, the SF split finish option covers that. The rose is 3-3/8 inch wrought brass with concealed screws, so no exposed fasteners on the face of the door.
10) I need remote release on a door with a PDQ SD182. Do I need an electrified lock?
Not necessarily. The SD182 is a mechanical lock with no electronic option, but it ships with ASA strike prep as standard, and that prep accepts an electric strike. Pairing the mechanical lever with an electric strike in the frame gets you buzz-in release without wiring the door leaf, which is usually the cheaper and simpler retrofit.
11) Can I add a high security cylinder to the SD182, or do I have to buy a different lock?
High security cylinders are available for the SD182 alongside the standard 6-pin SCC cylinder, so you can get added pick and drill resistance without moving off the Grade 2 chassis. If you plan to supply your own cylinder, order it less cylinder, or less core on the SFIC and Schlage LFIC preps.
12) Is the PDQ SD182 TAA compliant for a government job?
Yes. The SD182 is TAA compliant with country of origin KR, and it carries ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 certification plus ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 compliance, which covers the usual federal and institutional specification language for a cylindrical lever lock.
13) How do I order a specific PDQ SD182 configuration?
Each build has its own PDQ part number, formed from the model, lever and finish, for example SD182PHL605D. When ordering you specify lever style (Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Memphis or Orlando), finish, cylinder or core prep, backset and faceplate, handing, strike, keyway and keying, plus any option such as split finishes or a dust box.
