Prodatakey MNR Wireless Mesh Network Repeater WiMAC

Repeaters can be used to increase the distance of the wireless signal in areas where signal strength is weak, or the signal needs to travel long distances between door controllers. Repeaters become part of the mesh network and connect with each other or directly to an ACP, door controllers, and cloud node.

Prodatakey MNR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How far apart can Prodatakey WiMAC door controllers be before I need a repeater?
The MNR repeater exists for exactly that gap. WiMAC radios run 2.4 GHz / 802.15.4 with a range of about 1 mile line of sight but only around 450 feet indoors on average, and interior walls, elevator shafts and metal stud construction eat into that fast. If a controller is dropping off the mesh or sits past that indoor average from the nearest node, drop an MNR between them. It joins the mesh itself and links to other repeaters, an ACP, door controllers, or the cloud node.
2) Does the Prodatakey MNR repeater need its own network drop or wiring run?
No cable pull to the head end. The MNR is a wireless mesh node, so all it needs is power at the location you mount it. It ships with a wall plug and a 6 foot cable, and runs on 3.3V to 5V drawing up to 500mA. That means you're siting it by where an outlet is and where the signal needs help, not by where you can get conduit to.
3) Does a Prodatakey repeater count as a door controller or control a reader?
It does not. The MNR is purely a signal relay for the WiMAC mesh, with no reader input, no relay output and no door position tie-in. If you need to add an opening, you need a door controller. Buy the repeater only when you have coverage problems between the nodes you already have, or when a planned controller sits past reliable range from the rest of the mesh.
4) How many repeaters do I need between an ACP and a door controller on the far side of a building?
Work it in hops of the indoor average, roughly 450 feet per link, and add a repeater wherever a hop would exceed that or pass through heavy construction. Repeaters connect to each other as well as directly to an ACP, door controllers and the cloud node, so you can chain them across a long building or between structures on a campus. Line of sight outdoors stretches to about a mile per hop, so a single unit with a clear shot across a lot often covers what would take several inside.
5) Can I put a WiMAC mesh repeater in a parking garage or unheated stairwell?
Yes. The MNR is rated -20 to +60 C (-4 to +140 F) and 0 to 95 percent relative humidity, non condensing. That covers unconditioned garages, stairwells, attics and mechanical rooms in most climates. It is a metal can enclosure, not a weather rated box, so keep it out of direct rain and anywhere condensation forms on the housing.
6) How big is the Prodatakey MNR repeater and where can I mount it?
Small enough to tuck almost anywhere: 2.75 x 1.5 x .75 inches, in a metal can, and .17 lbs (2.7 oz) without the USB cable or wall plug. It fits above a ceiling tile, on top of a door frame, or inside an IT closet next to the outlet. Height matters more than concealment for a mesh radio, so get it up and away from metal where you can.
7) Is the wireless traffic on a Prodatakey WiMAC mesh encrypted?
AES 128-bit encryption on the WiMAC mesh link. That is the answer to give a security director or IT group asking what is traveling over the air between door controllers and the ACP.
8) What is the part number for the Prodatakey mesh repeater?
Order the Prodatakey MNR, MPN AHDS30RVFD. One model covers it, there are no finish, range or power variants to specify. The wall plug and 6 foot cable come with it, so nothing else is required to put a unit in service.
