PDK’s Aux 8 is an easy-to-install input/output board built to handle any auxiliary devices for your system. Built with PDK Red technology, the Aux 8 has built-in ethernet connectivity and self-discovery to simplify ip configuration and functionality. In addition, wireless and PoE++ communication is available with the PDK wireless or PoE++ module kits. The Aux 8 helps you provide full control or monitoring of up to eight different auxiliary devices.

  • Self Discoverable: The red aux 8 will be automatically discovered by the cloud node when an ethernet cable is connected; it is not necessary to enter the IP address; the device is self-discoverable.
  • Module Kits: Additional WiMAC and PoE++ plug-and-play connection kits can be added by purchasing the respective wireless or PoE kit. Plug the module into the Aux 8 board, and it's ready to go.

1) Does the PDK Aux 8 controller need an IP address configured during install?
No. Plug an ethernet cable into the Red Aux 8 and the cloud node finds it automatically. The board is self-discoverable, so there is no manual IP entry on the install. That is the main reason integrators pick it for multi-board jobs where hand-configuring addresses eats the schedule.
2) Can the PDK Aux 8 run over wireless or PoE instead of a hardwired ethernet drop?
Ethernet is built in on the Aux 8 board. Wireless and PoE++ are optional and come from separate PDK module kits that plug onto the board. The WiMAC wireless option is rated to 1 mile line of sight, averaging about 450 ft indoors. If you want either, the kit is a separate line on the order.
3) What power does the Prodatakey Aux 8 board need, and does it watch the backup battery?
Input is 12-24V DC. The board carries its own onboard power supply with a fully supervised circuit that reports input voltage, output voltage, battery voltage, and overall controller health, so a failing standby battery shows up in the system rather than at the next site visit.
4) What can I actually switch with the Aux 8 relays?
Eight industrial-grade 2A form-C relays are on the board. Form-C gives you both normally open and normally closed contacts per point, which is what you need for elevator floor control, arming and disarming an alarm panel, or triggering HVAC from an access event. Check your load against the 2A rating; anything heavier needs an interposing relay.
5) Is the Aux 8 a door controller, or do I still need a separate reader controller?
The Aux 8 is an auxiliary input/output board, not a door controller. It handles the devices around the system, monitoring points and relay triggers for elevators, alarm panels, and HVAC. Reader and door control come from the PDK door controllers on the same Red platform; the Aux 8 expands what that system can watch and switch.
6) How much wall space do I need for the Aux 8 enclosure?
The enclosure measures 10.4375 x 7.625 x 3 inches. Allow the 3 inch depth clearance plus room to swing the door and dress conduit into the can. Terminals are removable screw-down type, so you can land wire off the board and plug it back in.
7) Can the Aux 8 monitor door position switches and request-to-exit buttons, or is it outputs only?
Both. Despite the name it is an input/output board: it monitors and reports on devices tied to it, including door position sensors, push buttons, and motion devices, and it triggers on the relay side. Total of eight auxiliary points under full control or monitoring.
8) Will the PDK Aux 8 hold up in an unconditioned parking garage or a rooftop mechanical room?
Operating range is -4 to +140 F (-20 to +60 C) at 0 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. That covers most unconditioned interior spaces and garages in the majority of US climates. The non-condensing limit is the one to watch: a location where the board will sweat needs a heated or sealed enclosure.
