PDK’s Aux 8 is an easy-to-install input/output board built to handle any auxiliary devices for your system. Built with PDK Red technology, the Aux 8 has built-in ethernet connectivity and self-discovery to simplify ip configuration and functionality. In addition, wireless and PoE++ communication is available with the PDK wireless or PoE++ module kits. The Aux 8 helps you provide full control or monitoring of up to eight different auxiliary devices.

  • Module Kits: Additional WiMAC and PoE++ plug-and-play connection kits can be added by purchasing the respective wireless or PoE kit. Plug the module into the Aux 8 board, and it's ready to go.

1) Will the PDK Aux 8 expansion board fit in my existing enclosure or does it come with its own?
The A8E ships as a board in an enclosure measuring 10.4375 x 7.625 x 3 inches (W x H x D). Plan wall space and conduit entries around that footprint before you set it, and remember the relay and input field wiring lands on removable screw-down terminals, so you want room to pull the terminal blocks off for termination.
2) What power does the PDK Aux 8 controller need, and can I run it off PoE instead?
Input power is 12-24V DC, and the board carries an onboard power supply with a supervised circuit that watches input voltage, output voltage, battery voltage and controller health. If you would rather not pull a separate power run, PDK's PoE++ module kit plugs into the board and handles power and data over the one cable. That kit is a separate purchase, not included.
3) How many devices can I run off a PDK Aux 8, and what can it actually control?
Eight. The A8E gives you eight auxiliary points, with eight industrial-grade 2A form-C relays onboard for output. Typical uses are elevator floor release, arming and disarming an alarm panel, and HVAC control. On the input side it monitors door position switches, push buttons and motion devices. Because the relays are form-C, you get both normally open and normally closed contacts at each point, so it drops into either fail-safe or fail-secure wiring.
4) Can I use the PDK Aux 8 where there is no network cable run to the panel location?
Yes, with PDK's wireless module kit. The WiMAC module plugs into the Aux 8 board and gives roughly 1 mile line of sight, averaging about 450 feet indoors. That is the option for outbuildings, gates and elevator machine rooms where pulling Cat cable is impractical. The wireless kit is ordered separately from the board.
5) Is the PDK Aux 8 a door controller, or do I still need a separate reader controller?
It is an auxiliary input/output expansion board, not a door controller. It does not manage card readers and door strikes on its own. Use it alongside your PDK door controllers to pick up the extra points on a job, door position monitoring, request-to-exit buttons, motion devices, elevator outputs, alarm panel and HVAC triggers. If you need to control the reader and lock at an opening, that is a door controller, not the A8E.
6) Do I have to configure an IP address to get the PDK Aux 8 on the system?
No. Connect an Ethernet cable and the Aux 8 is self-discovered by the PDK cloud node. There is no IP address to enter and no DIP switch addressing to work out, which is what PDK means by the Red plug-and-play design.
7) Can a PDK Aux 8 board be mounted in an unconditioned space like a parking garage or rooftop mechanical room?
Its rated operating range is -4 to +140 F (-20 to +60 C) at 0 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. That covers most unconditioned interior spaces and garages in the majority of US climates. The non-condensing limit is the one to watch: a location that sees condensation on the board, such as an unsealed exterior wall or a cooler, needs a sealed or heated enclosure.
8) Does the PDK Aux 8 meet access control code requirements for a commercial building?
The A8E conforms to UL 294, the standard for access control system units, which is the listing specifiers and AHJs typically ask for on commercial access control equipment.
9) Can I check battery health on the PDK Aux 8 remotely instead of walking the building?
Yes. The onboard supervised power circuit reports battery voltage along with input and output voltage and overall controller health back through the system, so a property manager or integrator can see a failing standby battery before a power event exposes it rather than doing a physical round of every panel.
