1) What does the Prodatakey WiMAC kit actually do to a Red door controller?
The WiMAC kit is an add-on module that gives a Prodatakey Red controller wireless mesh communication instead of running data cable back to it. The module plugs into the Red board, and once it is in the controller knows to talk to other controllers over WiMAC wireless. It is a communication option for the controller, not a controller itself, so you still need the Red board and its door hardware.
2) How far will the Prodatakey WiMAC wireless module reach between door controllers?
Range is 1 mile line-of-sight and about 450 feet indoors on average. Indoors is the number that matters on most jobs, because walls, elevator shafts and metal doors eat the signal. It is a mesh, so controllers relay for each other and you can bridge a long run by placing a board partway rather than trying to make one 450 foot hop through a building core.
3) Will the Prodatakey WiMAC module work on any Prodatakey controller, or only the Red board?
The kit is for Red controllers. The description ties it to the Red board specifically, and the module drops into that board's plug-and-play connection slot. If you are adding doors on an older or different Prodatakey platform, this is not the communication module for it.
4) Do I still have to pull network cable to each door if I use WiMAC wireless?

You still have to get power to every controller and wire the reader, lock and request-to-exit at the door as normal. WiMAC replaces the communication run, not the power or the door wiring.

Operating range is -4 to +140 F (-20 to +60 C) with 0 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. That covers an unheated garage or a gate house in most US climates. The non-condensing part is the limit worth watching: if the enclosure sweats in a humid or unconditioned space, you need a sealed or heated enclosure, not just a NEMA cover.
6) Is the WiMAC wireless link on Prodatakey access control encrypted?
Yes. The WiMAC link carries AES 128-bit encryption on a 2.4 GHz 802.15.4 radio. That is the same radio band family as Zigbee style mesh gear, not Wi-Fi, so it does not sit on the building's wireless network or consume an SSID.
7) Should I use WiMAC wireless or a wired PoE connection for my Prodatakey Red controllers?
Wired PoE++ is the other plug-in option for Red boards. Go wired where a cable run is short or already in place, because it carries power and data together. Choose the WiMAC module where the run is the problem: an outbuilding, a gate, a retrofit through finished walls, or a door across a courtyard. Since WiMAC is a mesh, adding a wireless door later does not require a new home run back to the IDF.
