Red cloud node is the main controller and includes built-in Ethernet connectivity and self-discovery, simplifying IP configuration and functionality. With built-in plug-and-play connectivity options, additional network or WiMAC wireless controllers can be added in seconds. Red CN is equipped with OSDP functionality, an onboard power supply, and a fully supervised power circuit that monitors input, output, battery voltage, and overall controller health.

1) Can the PDK Red CloudNode control a door by itself, or do I need a separate door controller board?
The Red CloudNode is the main controller and doubles as a single door controller, so for a one-door install it's the only device you need. It lands on the network, connects to the reader and door hardware directly, and self-discovers for IP setup. When the job grows, additional network or WiMAC wireless controllers plug in, so one door today and a thousand later run on the same head end.
2) What wiring terminations does the PDK Red CloudNode give me for the reader, request-to-exit and the lock?
Terminations are removable screw-down blocks: a reader connection, Input A, Input B, and an industrial-grade 2A form-C relay for the locking device. Form-C means you get both normally open and normally closed contacts, so it drives a fail-safe mag or a fail-secure strike without an add-on relay board. Reader communication supports OSDP.
3) Will the Red CloudNode power my readers and mag lock, or do I need a separate power supply?
An onboard power supply feeds readers and other door hardware straight off the bus, fed by the included 14 VDC 2A 28 watt class 2 wall adapter. Board input accepts 12V to 24V DC and idles at about 200mA. Total output to peripherals is 2 amps at 12V, shared across all ports, so add up your reader and lock draw before hanging everything on it. A high-current mag lock is usually the one that pushes you to a separate supply. If you don't use the supplied adapter, PDK calls for a regulated supply no greater than 24 volts.
4) Is the Prodatakey Red CloudNode UL 294 listed for my access control job?
The Red CloudNode conforms to UL 294. One catch that trips installers up: the backup battery is not included, and a backup battery must be installed for the unit to comply with UL 294. If the spec on your job calls out UL 294, order a battery with it.
5) Do I have to run a network drop to every PDK controller, or can I go wireless?
Both are on the Red CloudNode. Ethernet is built in, and WiMAC wireless (2.4 GHz, 802.15.4) lets you bring in additional controllers without pulling cable, at AES 128-bit encryption. Range is 1 mile line of sight, 450 feet indoor average. Typical layout is a hard-wired CloudNode at the network point with WiMAC controllers out at the doors that would be expensive to trench or fish.
6) Can I mount the PDK Red CloudNode outside or in an unconditioned parking garage?
Indoor use only. The metal lockable security can is rated for indoor mounting, and the electronics run -4 to +140 F (-20 to +60 C) at 0 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. An unheated garage or a mechanical room usually falls inside that temperature band, but anywhere it can condense or get wet needs the controller in a conditioned space with the reader wiring run out to the door.
7) How much wall space does the Red CloudNode enclosure need?
The enclosure measures 7.625 x 10.4375 x 3 inches (W x H x D). Leave clearance in front of the 3 inch depth for the hinged door of the can and for terminating the screw-down blocks, and remember it has to sit somewhere lockable and indoors, typically an IDF, electrical closet, or the secure side above the door.
8) Does the PDK Red controller support OSDP readers or only Wiegand?
OSDP is supported on the Red CloudNode, alongside mobile and encrypted credential communication. OSDP gives you a supervised, encrypted reader connection instead of the open Wiegand data pair, which is what a spec writer is after when the drawing says secure reader communication.
9) How do I know if a PDK CloudNode has lost power or its battery is failing?
The Red CloudNode runs a fully supervised power circuit that monitors input voltage, output voltage, battery voltage, and overall controller health. That's the difference for a property manager or MRO group running unattended sites: a dying backup battery reports itself instead of being discovered during the next outage. Configuration and management happen through the pdk.io cloud platform from any internet-connected device.
10) What is the part number for the PDK Red CloudNode with Ethernet and WiMAC?
