1) Can the PDK Red Gate IO controller run a gate without trenching a cable out to it?
That's exactly what the Red Gate IO (RGW) is built for. It communicates back over WiMAC wireless on 2.4 GHz / 802.15.4, so you don't have to trench conduit out to a gate or a remote parking entry. Range is about 1 mile line of sight, or roughly 450 feet indoors on average. It still needs local power at the gate: 12V-24V DC in, with a 12V 1.2Ah backup battery recommended (sold separately). If you already have ethernet run to the location, the controller takes that too and self-discovers on the network, so no IP address entry.
2) Is the Prodatakey Red Gate IO controller rated to mount outdoors at the gate?
The enclosure is a NEMA 4X UL-rated polycarbonate lockable security housing, which is what lets it sit outside at a gate operator rather than in a conditioned IT closet. Operating range runs -20 to +60 C / -4 to +140 F and 0 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. Plan the mounting space around 7 x 9.25 x 2.25 inches; unit weight is 1.31 lbs.
3) How many doors or readers does one PDK Red Gate IO controller handle?
One Red Gate IO board carries two reader inputs and two industrial-grade 2A form-C relays, plus two Input A and two Input B terminals. In practice that is a two-reader opening, so a gate with entry and exit readers, or two separate controlled points. All terminals are removable screw-down type. If the site grows, the Red platform adds controllers on the same system, so you are not capped at what this one board carries.
4) Do I need a separate power supply and enclosure for the PDK Red Gate controller?
No separate power supply board or can is required. The Red Gate IO ships with an onboard power supply inside its own lockable NEMA 4X enclosure, and it powers readers and other door hardware directly off the bus at 12V-24V DC. Idle draw is 35mA continuous, which is what you size the backup battery around. What you do add separately: the 12V 1.2Ah backup battery, and a Red PoE++ module kit if you want to feed it over ethernet instead of a local transformer.
5) Will the PDK Red Gate IO work with OSDP readers, or is it Wiegand only?
OSDP is supported on the Red Gate IO, along with mobile and encrypted credential communication, and wireless traffic between devices uses AES 128-bit encryption. That matters if your spec calls for supervised, encrypted reader communication rather than open Wiegand, which is increasingly the requirement on government and healthcare jobs.
6) What is the difference between the wireless PDK Red Gate IO and running ethernet to the controller?
The wireless RGW model exists so you can control a gate or an outbuilding without pulling cable to it, using the WiMAC 2.4 GHz link back to the system. Ethernet is still on the board, so a hardwired install is possible on the same unit, and on ethernet the controller self-discovers when you plug the cable in rather than needing a static IP typed in. Choose wireless when the trench or conduit run is the expensive part of the job; choose ethernet when the cable is already there or the path crosses heavy obstruction that would cut into the 450 foot indoor average.
7) Does the PDK Red Gate controller tell me when the backup battery is failing?
Power supervision is built in. The circuit is fully supervised and monitors input voltage, output voltage, battery voltage, and overall controller health, so a dying standby battery at a remote gate surfaces in the system instead of being discovered the morning the gate won't open. For an MRO or property team maintaining gates across several properties, that is the difference between scheduled battery replacement and an emergency call.
8) What is the correct Prodatakey part number for the wireless Red Gate IO controller?

9) Can the Red Gate IO controller be powered over PoE?

Budget for that kit up front if the plan is to run one cable to the gate cabinet and skip a local transformer.
10) Will a 2A form-C relay on the PDK Red Gate IO drive my gate operator and a maglock?
Each of the two relays is an industrial-grade 2A form-C contact, which is dry changeover, so it can either signal a gate operator's input or switch a lock, and form-C gives you both normally open and normally closed on the same terminal set for fail-safe or fail-secure wiring. The 2A rating is the number to check against your maglock or strike current draw before wiring it directly rather than through an interposing relay.
