Prodatakey R1 Single Door Controller Red Series

Red 1 controller includes built-in Ethernet connectivity and self-discovery, simplifying ip configuration and functionality. Communication plug-and-play connection options are added by purchasing a Red WiMAC wireless or PoE++ module kit. The Red 1 is equipped with OSDP functionality, an on-board power supply, and a fully-supervised power circuit that monitors input, output, battery voltage, and overall controller health.

Features:

  • Advanced Security: Red products lead the industry in secure communication protocols. This includes OSDP, mobile, and encrypted credential communication.
  • Power Monitoring: Equipped with an on-board power supply, and a fully-supervised power circuit that monitors input, output, battery voltage, and overall controller health.
  • Plug-n-play Connectivity: All PDK Red devices were designed to be plug n' play. That means they're easy to install right out of the box. It's simple to add any device, no matter how large the job is.
  • self Discoverable: The Red 1 will be automatically discovered by the Cloud Node when an Ethernet cable is connected; it is not necessary to enter the IP address; the device is self-discoverable.
  • Module Kits: Additional WiMAC and PoE++ plug-and-play connection kits can be added by purchasing the respective wireless or PoE kit. Plug the module into the PDK Red 1 board, and it's ready to go.
  • Systems Capability: Whether you need one door or a thousand, the PDK red 1 controller gives you the flexibility to add more doors anytime, anywhere, on any device.

Prodatakey R1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDK Red 1 controller run a single door, and can I add more doors later?
The Red 1 is a one-door controller. It carries a reader connection, Input A, Input B, and one industrial-grade 2A form-C relay for the lock, so it handles one opening. PDK's Red platform scales by adding controllers, so a building that starts with one door can grow to a thousand without replacing what's already installed. If you're wiring two doors in the same closet, you need two Red 1 boards, not one.
2) Does the PDK Red 1 need a static IP or any network configuration to get on the system?
No IP entry required. Ethernet is built in, and the Red 1 is self-discoverable: plug in the Ethernet cable and the Cloud Node finds it automatically. That's the part that saves the integrator a truck roll when the IT department won't hand out addresses. If you'd rather not pull a data drop at all, a WiMAC wireless module kit or a PoE++ module kit plugs onto the Red 1 board instead.
3) Does the PDK Red 1 come with PoE, or do I have to buy the PoE module separately?
PoE++ is not on the board out of the box. The Red 1 ships with Ethernet and an on-board power supply; PoE++ and WiMAC wireless are add-on module kits you order separately and plug into the Red 1 board. Budget for the kit if you're powering the controller off the switch rather than running a separate 12V-24V DC feed.
4) Can the Red 1 power my reader and maglock, or do I need a separate power supply?
The Red 1 powers readers and door hardware directly from the bus. It comes with a 14 VDC 2A 28 watt class 2 wall adapter feeding the board, and total output to peripherals is 2 amps at 12V shared across all ports when using the included 2.5 amp adapter. The board itself draws 35mA idle. Add up your reader and lock current before you commit: a maglock plus a reader can eat most of that 2 amp budget. If you substitute a supply, PDK says use a regulated one putting out no more than 24 volts measured at the terminals.
5) Is the PDK Red 1 UL 294 compliant, and is there anything I have to add to keep it that way?
The Red 1 conforms to UL 294. One catch that trips up inspections: the backup battery is not included, and a backup battery must be installed for the installation to comply with UL 294. Order the battery with the controller if the job is being signed off against that standard.
6) Can I mount the PDK Red 1 outdoors or in an unheated parking garage?
Indoor use only. The Red 1 comes in a metal lockable security can rated for indoor mounting, so a garage, exterior wall, or unconditioned equipment shed is the wrong place for it. The electronics themselves run -4 to +140 F (-20 to +60 C) at 0-95% relative humidity non-condensing, but that doesn't override the enclosure's indoor rating. Standard practice is to mount the controller inside, in a secure room or IDF, and run the reader wiring out to the door.
7) Does the PDK Red 1 support OSDP readers or only Wiegand?
OSDP is supported on the Red 1. That matters for a security integrator specifying to a modern standard: OSDP gives you supervised, encrypted reader communication instead of the open, unsupervised Wiegand run that can be defeated at the reader. PDK's Red line also covers mobile and encrypted credential communication, and device-to-device encryption is AES 128-bit.
8) How much wall space do I need for the PDK Red 1 enclosure?
The enclosure measures 7.625 x 10.4375 x 3 inches (W x H x D). That 3 inch depth is the number people miss when planning a crowded IDF backboard or a shallow closet, and you need clearance in front of the can for the lockable door to swing. Plan the location within reach of a 120V receptacle for the wall adapter.
9) How far will the PDK WiMAC wireless option reach from the controller?
WiMAC runs 2.4 GHz on 802.15.4, with a range of 1 mile line of sight and 450 feet indoors on average. Indoors is the number to design to, since walls, steel, and elevator shafts cut into it fast. WiMAC on the Red 1 is a plug-in module kit ordered separately, not something on the base board.
10) Will the PDK Red 1 tell me if the power or backup battery fails?
Yes, and this is the reason a facilities team picks the Red 1 over a dumb relay board. The controller runs a fully-supervised power circuit that monitors input voltage, output voltage, battery voltage, and overall controller health. You find out a battery has gone flat from the system, not from a door that won't unlock during a power outage.
11) What kind of lock can I wire to the PDK Red 1 relay?
The lock output is one industrial-grade 2A form-C relay. Form-C gives you both a normally open and a normally closed contact off the same relay, so it drives either a fail-secure strike or a fail-safe maglock depending on which side you land on. The 2 amp contact rating is your ceiling for the lock circuit. Field wiring is on removable screw-down terminals, which lets you pull the connector rather than rewire when you swap a board.
12) What is the Prodatakey Red 1 part number for ordering?
The Red 1 single door controller is Prodatakey MPN AHDS30RVFD. It's the hardwired Red Series single-door board with built-in Ethernet, on-board power supply, and OSDP. Give a distributor that number and the Red Series R1 designation and there's no ambiguity with the multi-door Red boards.
