RAB WFRL-GOOF-6R-8R-W – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size recessed downlights does the RAB WFRL goof ring cover?
The WFRL goof ring comes in two sizes: one for 4 inch and 6 inch downlights (WFRL-GOOF-4R-6R-W) and one for 6 inch and 8 inch downlights (WFRL-GOOF-6R-8R-W). If you are working on a mix of 4 and 6 inch cans, the 4R-6R ring covers both. Six inch openings are covered by either version, so a job running 6 and 8 inch fixtures takes the 6R-8R.
2) I cut the ceiling hole too big for my recessed light. Will a goof ring fix it?
That is exactly what the WFRL goof ring is for. It is a white trim ring that sits between the fixture trim and the ceiling to hide an oversized or ragged cut, damaged drywall, or the ghost of a larger fixture that used to be there. It is not a fixture and contains no lamp or driver, so it does nothing electrically. You still need the downlight itself. Pick the ring by the size of the fixture going in: 4R-6R for 4 and 6 inch cans, 6R-8R for 6 and 8 inch.
3) Is the RAB WFRL goof ring a light fixture or just a trim piece?
Trim only. The WFRL is a finishing ring, no lamp, no driver, no wiring, and it draws no power. It is ordered alongside a downlight, not instead of one.
4) I am retrofitting 8 inch cans down to smaller LED downlights across an apartment building. Which WFRL do I order?
Order the WFRL-GOOF-6R-8R-W. It is the version sized for 6 and 8 inch openings, so it covers the old 8 inch cut when a smaller trim goes in its place. If some units have 4 inch fixtures going in instead, those openings need the WFRL-GOOF-4R-6R-W. Two part numbers cover the whole 4 to 8 inch range, which keeps a multi-unit turn on a short order list.
5) What color is the RAB WFRL goof ring, and will it match a white ceiling?
White is the only finish offered on the WFRL, in both the 4-6 inch and 6-8 inch sizes. On a standard white or off-white painted ceiling it disappears; against a dark or wood ceiling it will read as a visible white band, so plan on painting or choosing a different cover in that case.
