1) Will the RCI 12C electric strike fit an aluminum storefront frame, or is it only for hollow metal?
Frame material isn't the limiter on the 12C. It's built for wood, steel, and aluminum frames alike, and the body is small enough to make that realistic: 1-13/16 x 2-3/4 x 1-1/8 inches. Non-handed too, so one part covers left- and right-hand openings and you don't have to stock both.
2) What happens to the door if power is lost on an RCI 12C strike?
It stays locked. The 12C is fail-secure, so when power drops the keeper holds and the latch stays captured. That's the right choice for a stockroom, IT closet, tenant suite, or exterior entry where you want security to survive an outage. It is the wrong choice where the opening has to release on power loss, which is what a fail-safe strike is for. Mechanical egress from the inside is a function of the lock on the door, not the strike, so a fail-secure strike is normally still fine on an egress opening with a lever or exit device.
3) Can I swap an RCI 12C in where there is currently a plain T-strike?
That's the intended retrofit. The 12C replaces a standard non-electrified T-strike, so the common job is pulling the mechanical strike out of an existing frame and dropping the electrified version in its place with power run to it. Prep work at the frame and a wire path are what you're planning for, not a new door.
4) Is the RCI 12C strong enough for a main entry or a high-traffic commercial door?
