1) Will a Trine 3012 electric strike work with my existing latch, or do I need a specific lock?
The Trine 3000 Series strike accepts a latch throw up to 5/8 inch, with a 1/2 inch keeper. So a standard cylindrical or mortise latchbolt within that throw drops into the cavity. If the latch on your door throws more than 5/8 inch, this body is the wrong strike for that opening.
2) What happens to the Trine 3012 strike when the power goes out?
It stays locked. The 3012 is fail secure, so with power removed the keeper holds and the door remains secured from the outside; egress is still by the lever or panic hardware on the inside. If you need the opening to release on a power drop, Trine builds a fail safe version under the RS suffix, which locks when powered instead.
3) How much current does the Trine 3012 draw, and can I run it off my existing 12VDC access control power supply?
The 3012 runs on 12VDC and draws 0.48 amp, roughly a half amp per door. Size the supply and the wire run for that per strike, and remember the 3000 Series body is rated for intermittent duty, not continuous. A 24VDC version, the 3024, covers panels running at 24 volts.
4) Is the Trine 3000 Series electric strike strong enough for a high traffic commercial entrance?
It is built for commercial installation and tested to Grade 1 under BHMA A156.31, with more than 500,000 life cycles, 1,500 lbs or more of static holding force, and a 70 ft/lb dynamic force rating. That is the profile for an entrance that gets cycled hundreds of times a day rather than a light interior office door.
5) My frame cavity is too shallow for the strike body. Does the Trine 3012 come with spacers?
Spacers ship with the 3012 and 3024 mechanism and increase cavity depth by up to 1/8 inch. That covers the common case where the existing frame pocket is slightly shallow behind the strike. Beyond 1/8 inch of shortfall you are into modifying the frame.
6) Should I order the Trine 3012 or the 3024?
The choice is voltage, not function. Both are fail secure intermittent duty bodies in the 3000 Series; the 3012 is the 12VDC unit drawing 0.48 amp, and the 3024 is the 24VDC unit. Match whichever your access control power supply already puts out rather than adding a converter at the door.
7) Is the Trine 3012 a complete electric strike or just the mechanism?
What you are buying is the strike body, the 3012 mechanism itself. It is a centered configuration unit in a matte silver finish. The faceplate that suits your frame profile is the separate piece to specify, so pin down your frame type before ordering.
8) Can I use a Trine 3012 electric strike on a fire rated door?
Fail secure is the function fire rated openings require, since the latch must stay engaged when power is lost, and the 3012 is a fail secure unit. What it is not is a substitute for a fire label on the strike itself. Do not fit the fail safe RS variant on a fire rated opening.
