RCI RCI-2364 32D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the RCI 2364 electric strike work with a mortise lock that has both a latch and a deadbolt?
The 2364 accepts latch projections from 1/2 inch (12.7mm) to 3/4 inch (19mm) and will take a deadbolt up to 1 inch, but only as a night-latch arrangement: the strike will not release the deadbolt. So a mortise lock with an offset latch works, and the saw-tooth adjustment locator lets you slide the deadbolt keeper and deadlatch ramp vertically to line up with that lock. If your opening depends on the deadbolt being thrown and electrically released, this is the wrong device for it.
2) Is the RCI 2364 fail secure or fail safe, and what happens to the door when power drops?
Fail secure. With power off the keeper stays locked, so the opening remains secured in a power failure and entry is still possible with a key or by turning the inside lever, since the lock's own latch retraction is mechanical. If the code path for your opening requires the door to unlock on power loss, a fail secure strike will not satisfy it.
3) What size frame cutout does the RCI 2364 need, and will it cover an existing strike prep?
The 2364 uses a 4-7/8 inch faceplate, the standard ANSI mortise strike prep size, and it seats 1-3/4 inches deep into the frame, so you need that much clear depth behind the cutout. A trim plate ships with it to cover an irregular or oversized existing cutout, which is what makes it workable on a retrofit where the old strike pocket does not match. Two keeper shims, 1/16 inch and 1/8 inch, are included for horizontal adjustment when the frame and door are out of alignment.
4) Can I run the RCI 2364 electric strike on 24VDC, and how much current does it draw?
Voltage is field selectable between 12 and 24VDC, set at the strike rather than by ordering a different part. Maximum draw is 375mA at 12VDC, which is the figure to size your power supply against. Note that the AC option does not apply to the 2364 model, so plan on a DC supply.
5) Is the RCI 2364 strike rated for a fire door?
The 2364 is not a fire rated strike. RCI does build a fire rated (F) version in the family, rated 3 hours on a single swing door and 90 minutes on a standard pair, so a labeled opening needs that F model rather than the plain 2364.
6) Will the RCI 2364 work with a cylindrical lockset, or is it mortise only?
Both. The 2364 is built for cylindrical locks as well as mortise exit and latch locks, which is the point of the adjustable ramp and keeper. What decides it is the latch, not the lock body style: as long as the projection falls between 1/2 and 3/4 inch, the strike takes it.
7) My existing strike pocket does not line up with the new lock's latch. Can the RCI 2364 be adjusted in the field?
Adjustment runs in two directions. Vertically, the saw-tooth locator moves the deadbolt keeper and deadlatch ramp to meet an offset mortise latch.
