ROFU 1702 Electric Strike, Fail Secure, Faceplate Size 11/4" x 4-7/8"

It stays locked. The 1702 is fail secure, so the keeper holds the latch when power drops and the door must be opened with the key or lever from the egress side. If the opening is on a fire door or a stair door where the code requires the strike to release on power loss, you want a fail safe strike instead, such as the Hager 2925, which is field reversible between fail safe and fail secure.

The keeper is depth adjustable. With 1/8 inch door to frame clearance it handles up to 3/4 inch latch projection, and 1/2 inch maximum projection is possible at tighter clearance. Measure the latch throw on your existing lock plus the gap before you commit.

No handing to specify. The 1702 is reversible and non handed, so one part number covers both swings. What you do have to pick is voltage and finish.

Four voltage builds: 8-16 VAC / 3-6 VDC, 12 VAC/VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, and 24 VDC. Voltage is built in, not field selectable, so match it to your power supply or access control panel output before ordering. If you want one strike that covers 12 and 24 VDC on the same part, the Von Duprin 4211 is field selectable between the two.

For a labeled opening, choose a strike published as fire rated. The Von Duprin 6400 32D is a Grade 1 modular electric strike for mortise or cylindrical locks, fail-secure, with a 3-hour UL 10C fire rating in satin stainless. The Von Duprin 4211 32D is a Grade 1 fire rated strike for cylindrical locks with 12/24 VDC field-selectable voltage. The Hager 2930 is a Grade 1 fire rated strike for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage and field reversible fail safe/secure operation. The ROFU 1702 remains a fine choice on non-labeled aluminum, hollow metal, or wood frames.

The ROFU 1702 uses a 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" ANSI size faceplate in anodized aluminum and is fail secure. For the same faceplate footprint, the Adams Rite 7170 is an electric strike for hollow metal and wood jambs with a 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" faceplate, and the Adams Rite 7100 Series covers aluminum jambs with a flat 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" faceplate. The Dortronics 3300 Series also uses a strike plate for ANSI prep at 4-7/8 in x 1-1/4 in and runs 12/24VDC. Picking among them comes down to frame material and whether you need latch monitoring, which the Dortronics 3300 provides through a latch bolt sensing switch.

Several fail secure strikes carry a different faceplate and will not drop into the 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" ANSI cutout the ROFU 1702 uses. The Trine 001 Series is a fail-secure light commercial strike with a 5-7/8" x 1-1/4" faceplate, and the Trine 16-24VAC/DC fail secure strike also uses 5-7/8" x 1-1/4". The Trine 8-16VAC fail secure model is wider still at 6-1/4" x 1-3/8". The SDC 30-4 is a rim mount strike for a 3/4" Pullman latchbolt, a different mounting approach altogether, and the Securitron MUNL is a mortise UnLatch strike.

The ROFU 1702 mounts into an ANSI 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" prep with an adjustable keeper. If frame cutting is the obstacle, the Locknetics NC450 is a no cut electric strike. If you need position feedback, the Dortronics 3300 Series includes a latch bolt sensing switch, and the Camden CX-ED1799L-8 is a Grade 1 fire rated dual monitor strike supplied with eight faceplates for varied preps.

The ROFU 1702 is built for hollow metal, aluminum or wood frames with a latch projection up to 1/2". For an exterior gate, the Camden CX-ED1959 Series is an outdoor rated electric gate strike. For surface vertical rod exit hardware, the HES Folger Adam 310-4-2 is a complete electric strike pac for surface vertical rods, and for rim exit devices the Hager 2945 is a fire rated rim exit strike with field selectable fail safe/fail secure and a latchbolt monitor.

The 1702 works in aluminum frames as well as hollow metal and wood, and its 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inch faceplate matches the same prep the Adams Rite 7100 uses in aluminum jambs. The difference is scope: the Adams Rite 7100 and 7160 are dedicated aluminum jamb strikes, while the 7170 covers hollow metal and wood. The ROFU 1702 covers all three frame types on one part.

No monitoring on the 1702, it is a straight release strike with no latchbolt sensing. If your panel needs latch status or door position feedback, look at the Dortronics 3300 Series, which has a latch bolt sensing switch and the same 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inch ANSI strike plate, or the Hager 2945 with latchbolt monitor.

The ROFU 1702 is offered in 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze and 628 clear anodized with 8-16 VAC/3-6 VDC, 12 VAC/VDC, 24 VAC/VDC and 24 VDC coils. If you need a single straightforward fail secure unit, the RCI 15BS is an economy electric strike for special offset latch entry with fail-secure operation. The SDC 25 Series is a value strike for 1/2" latchbolt compatibility, which matches the 1/2" maximum latch projection range of the ROFU 1702, and the SDC 15 Series is a value strike for a 5/8" latchbolt at 12/24 VDC.

The ROFU 1702 is a single reversible, non-handed strike for a standard ANSI frame prep. For a pair of doors, the Rockwood double door electric strike with a 3/4 keeper is a Grade 1 fire rated unit in the 310-1 Series. Where one part number needs to cover several different preps across a building, the Camden CX-ED1689L-4 is a fire rated universal low profile strike supplied with four faceplates.

Three: 628 clear anodized, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 606 satin brass. Clear anodized is the usual match for aluminum storefront jambs; 613 and 606 are there when the strike has to match existing lever trim in a lobby or common area.

It is a commercial rated electric strike, intended for access controlled openings in commercial buildings. The aluminum ANSI faceplate and the three frame types it suits fit office, multi-family common area, and light institutional work.
