Record-USA HA9-101-39 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I have to order a left hand or right hand Record HA9 operator?
No handing to specify. The HA9 is non-handed, so the same unit covers a left or right swing opening. What you do need to settle is push versus pull side mounting, because the reveal limits differ: up to 14 inches of reveal on the push side and up to 2-3/8 inches on the pull side.
2) How do I measure the reveal to know if a push arm HA9 will work on my opening?
Reveal is the setback from the face of the frame where the header mounts to the face of the door. On the push side the HA9 arm accommodates up to 14 inches of reveal, which covers most recessed storefront and vestibule conditions. Pull side is far tighter, up to 2-3/8 inches, so a deeply recessed opening generally forces the push configuration.
3) What power does a Record HA9 automatic door operator need at the header?
Line power, 120 VAC to the header. The operator also gives you an auxiliary 24 VDC output at 1/2 amp to run your activation and safety devices, with an optional upgrade to 1.1 amps if you are loading it with sensors, an electric strike and a card reader interface together.
4) Can I use the HA9 operator on a pair of doors or a dual egress opening?
Yes. The HA9 is offered in single, pair and dual egress configurations, and a sync cable is part of the feature set so the two leaves sequence together rather than fighting each other. Each leaf still needs its own operator, and each leaf must be within the 48 inch width limit.
5) Will the Record HA9 operator work with my electric strike and access control system?
That is built in. The HA9 has electric strike integration and a lock retry function, plus extra inputs and outputs for sensors, electric locks and mode switches, and it can be tied into building access and security systems. Lock kick drives the door to a positive latch during fire or safety events. Wire the strike to the auxiliary 24 VDC output, keeping the 1/2 amp budget (or the 1.1 amp upgrade) in mind across everything you are powering.
6) Is a low energy operator like the HA9 the right choice, or do I need a full power automatic door?
A low energy push plate operator is the right call where traffic is moderate and users activate the door deliberately, with a push plate, a wave plate or a card reader release. That is the HA9's territory: schools, hospitals, retail, offices, airports and convention centers, rated for moderate traffic. Full power sliding or swinging entrances belong on continuous high volume main entries where nobody touches anything. The HA9 also does power assist and Push and Go, so the door opens under motor power when someone starts pushing it manually.
7) What finishes does the Record HA9 header come in, and can I match my existing storefront?
Two finishes: 689 clear anodized aluminum and 710 dark bronze. Clear matches standard mill finish aluminum storefront, dark bronze matches bronze anodized frames. Pick the one already on the frames if you are adding an operator to an opening in an existing building, since the 39 inch header sits in plain view above the door.
8) What happens if someone blocks the door or holds it while the HA9 is opening?
The control board handles both. Stop on stall halts the motor if the door is held or jammed, and reverse on obstruction backs the door off if it strikes something during the cycle. Sensor monitoring is included as well, so a failed safety sensor is detected rather than ignored. The cast alloy arms and door stop are built for abusive conditions, which is why this one shows up in schools and transit buildings.
9) How do I set the open and close speeds on a Record HA9 after install?
One touch learn cycle. The microprocessor control runs the door through a cycle and sets itself, rather than making you dial in a bank of valves. It also does stack pressure compensation, so it adapts as building pressure and weather change across the day instead of drifting out of adjustment. The plug and play wiring keeps first fit short.
10) How do I let staff turn the automatic operation off, and can it be locked out?
An on/off/hold open switch comes standard on the HA9, so a facility can shut the automatic function down or hold the door open for a delivery. If you do not want the public reaching it, a key switch is available as an option instead of the standard switch. Push and Go is selectable, so it can be turned off too if you do not want the door powering open on a manual push.
11) Is the Record HA9 an interior door operator or can it go on an exterior entrance?
It is a commercial rated operator and the applications named for it run to airports, convention centers and industrial buildings, so exterior and vestibule entrances are within its scope. The stack pressure compensation matters there: on a vestibule or exterior leaf the pressure differential across the door changes constantly, and the control adapts rather than needing reset. Confirm the leaf is 48 inches or less and that your reveal falls inside the 14 inch push or 2-3/8 inch pull limits.
12) Is the HA9 a hydraulic operator or electric, and how noisy is it in a quiet building?
Electro-mechanical, not hydraulic. There is no fluid to leak onto a finished frame and no seasonal viscosity drift. Record builds the HA9 for quiet operation, which is the reason it lands in hospitals and libraries where a pneumatic or hydraulic unit is audible down the corridor.
