1) Will the Rockwood 105x70C pull plate work on a door thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
The through bolts supplied with the 105x70C are 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch, sized for a standard 1-3/4 inch door, along with #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws. If your door is any other thickness, that has to be specified when ordering so the correct bolt length comes with it.
2) I need a pull plate with wider hand clearance than 5-1/2 inch center-to-center. What should I use instead?
The Rockwood 105x70C is fixed at 5-1/2 inch center-to-center. For a longer grip, the Ives 8303 is a heavy duty pull plate offered with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, and the Trimco 1014 half-round pull plate uses a 6 inch CTC pull. Wider CTC gives a gloved hand or a two-hand pull more room, which matters on heavy or high-traffic doors.
3) Does the Rockwood 105x70C meet ANSI standards for commercial door hardware?
It is built to ANSI A156.6, type J405, and is a commercial grade item. That is the standard architectural door trim spec, which is what most institutional and school submittals call out for pull plates.
4) What finish and material is the Rockwood 105x70C pull plate?
Stainless steel, supplied in 630 satin stainless (US32D). That is the usual match for satin stainless push plates, kick plates and levers already on commercial openings, so it blends into an existing stainless hardware set without a finish mismatch.
5) Do I need a push plate to go with a pull plate on a door?
A pull plate handles the pull side; the push side normally gets a matching push plate. The 105x70C covers the pull side only. For the push side in a comparable size, Delaney offers a 4 by 16 inch push plate, and Emtek's Modern and Knoxville series come as push and pull plate sets if you want a decorative look instead.
6) Should the pull plate be through bolted or screwed on?
Both mounting methods ship with the 105x70C: #6 x 5/8 inch sheet metal screws, or 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch through bolts with finish washers. On a high traffic entrance, use the through bolts; screws alone tend to work loose under repeated pulling. Ives 8302 is another pull plate built specifically for through bolt mounting.
7) What is a simpler pull plate option if I do not need the Rockwood 105x70C commercial spec?
The 105x70C is a commercial stainless steel plate built to ANSI A156.6, J405. If the door is lighter duty, the Delaney 4 by 16 inch door pull plate covers the same plate footprint, and the Delaney 3-1/2 by 15 inch door pull plate is a smaller plate for narrower stiles. Emtek's Knoxville, Modern, and Petal push and pull plate series are decorative options where appearance leads the selection.
8) Will the Rockwood 105x70C work as the pull trim on an exit device?
The 105x70C is a standalone pull plate that mounts to the door with #6 x 5/8 inch sheet metal screws or 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts with finish washers for a 1-3/4 inch door. It is not exit device trim. For a pull plate designed to go with an exit device, the Detex P/PN Series pull plate is made for Detex Value Series exit devices.
9) What pull plate should I use if I want through-bolt mounting on a heavy traffic door instead of the Rockwood 105x70C?
The 105x70C already supports through bolting with the supplied 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts and finish washers sized for a 1-3/4 inch door, and Rockwood asks that you advise if the door is a different thickness. If you want an alternative built around that mounting method, the Ives 8302 is a heavy duty pull plate with through bolt mounting.
