1) Will the Rockwood 106x70B pull plate mount on a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes. The 106x70B ships with #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws plus 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts and finish washers, and that thru bolt length is sized for a standard 1-3/4 inch door. If your door is any other thickness, the bolt length has to change, so state the actual thickness when you order.
2) Does the Rockwood 106x70B meet ANSI standards for commercial door trim?
It is built to ANSI A156.6, J405, the standard covering architectural door trim, and it is a commercial-grade item rather than residential trim. That is the reference a spec writer or facilities buyer will want on the submittal.
3) My drawing calls for a heavy duty through-bolted pull plate. Is the Rockwood 106x70B it, or should I look at Ives?
The Rockwood 106x70B ships with #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws plus 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts and finish washers for a standard 1-3/4 inch door, so it can be through bolted as supplied. The Ives 8302 is catalogued specifically as a heavy duty pull plate with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8303 is a heavy duty plate built around 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting if the spec calls for a wider grip than the Rockwood's 6 inch CTC.
4) Can I use a Rockwood 106x70B as the pull trim on a Detex exit device?
The 106x70B is a stand-alone pull plate with a 6 inch center-to-center pull, mounted with the supplied screws or thru bolts - it is not built around an exit device chassis. For Detex Value Series exit devices, the Detex P/PN Series pull plate is the trim made for that application. Use the Detex plate where the pull has to land on the device prep, and the Rockwood where the pull mounts to the door face.
5) What finish and material is the Rockwood 106x70B pull plate?
Stainless steel, supplied in 630 satin stainless (US32D). That is the workhorse finish for schools, hospitals and offices because it hides handprints and scratches better than a polished finish, and it matches most commercial hinges and exit device trim already in the building.
6) I need a wider pull plate than 3-1/2 by 15 inches. What else is available?
The Rockwood 106x70B plate measures 3-1/2 by 15 inches. For a larger plate, the Delaney 4 inch by 16 inch door pull plate covers the same function on a taller and wider footprint, which is useful when you are covering existing fastener holes or scarring from prior hardware. Delaney also offers a 3-1/2 by 15 inch pull plate if you want to stay at the same size in a different line.
7) Is a stainless pull plate like this suitable for a high-traffic school or hospital door?
Yes. Rockwood trim of this type goes on institutional buildings, offices, retail, educational, detention, sports facilities, hotels and restaurants. Through-bolting with the 1/4-20 fasteners is what carries the abuse in those openings; screws alone will loosen on a heavy-use door. Other through-bolted options we carry include the Ives 8302 heavy duty pull plate.
