Rockwood HD2230 Heavy Duty Protector Bars

Projection is 3-1/4 inches, so the bar sits that far off the door face. Measure the outermost point of your push pad or touch bar at its rest position from the door face; if that number is under 3-1/4 inches the HD2230 clears it, and if the device projects further the bar will foul it. Depressed-position travel matters too on touch bars, so check the pad at full stroke, not just at rest.

The HD2230 mounts on 8 inch center-to-center holes. That's the dimension to check against an existing prep if you're replacing a bar that's already through-bolted, since a different CTC means new holes in the door.

The HD2230 is a heavy duty protector bar that mounts over an exit device push bar, giving the panic hardware a stainless steel shield to take the abuse instead of the device itself. It's a trim protector, not a lock or a latch, so it doesn't change how the door opens. Common on institutional, detention, education, and other high traffic openings where carts and shoulders hit the push bar all day.

One finish: 630, satin stainless steel, which is the same thing older specs call US32D. It's the standard commercial stainless finish, so it lines up with satin stainless push plates, pulls, and exit device trim already on most institutional openings. If your building is standardized on brass or bronze finishes, this bar won't match.

Made to order sizes are available on the HD2230, so a nonstandard bar length for a wide leaf or an unusual device layout can be ordered. The 8 inch center-to-center mounting and 3-1/4 inch projection are what govern how it sits on the door.

A protector bar only shields hardware, it doesn't restore function. If the exit device still latches and dogs correctly and the problem is cosmetic damage and ongoing abuse, the HD2230 stops the next round of it. If the device itself is failing to latch or the touch bar is bent into the case, replace the device; a bar over a broken device just hides it. Many facilities fit protector bars on new device installs from day one on high traffic openings to keep the device out of the abuse path.

The bar is stainless steel throughout, so corrosion resistance is there for exterior doors, loading docks, pool corridors, and washdown areas where a plated steel part would rust at the fastener heads. Thru-bolted stainless hardware on a stainless bar keeps the whole assembly consistent.

It's specified as commercial hardware, and Rockwood trim of this type goes onto institutional buildings, offices, retail, schools, detention facilities, sports venues, hotels, and restaurants. Stainless construction and 1/4-20 thru bolting are what put it in that duty class rather than a screw-mounted residential plate.
