Rockwood ROC-HD2250-US32D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What hole spacing do I need to drill for the Rockwood HD2250 protector bar?
Center-to-center on the HD2250 is 8 inches, so your two through-bolt holes get laid out 8 inches apart. If you are replacing an existing bar, measure the old fastener spacing first: anything other than 8 inches means new holes in the door, and stainless doors do not forgive a mislocated bore.
2) What is a Rockwood HD2250 protector bar actually for?
The HD2250 is a heavy duty pull-style protector bar that mounts on the door face to take the abuse instead of the door and the trim behind it. Stainless steel construction, with a 4-1/4 inch projection off the face, so it stands proud enough to catch carts, hand trucks and shoulders before they reach the door itself. It is not a latch or a lock, just the bar and its through-bolt fasteners.
3) Does the HD2250 protector bar come with mounting hardware, or do I order fasteners separately?
Fasteners are included. Each bar comes with 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts and finish washers. Because it is a through-bolted assembly, you need access to both faces of the door to install it, and on a pair of doors you will need one bar per leaf.
4) Can I get the Rockwood HD2250 in a length other than the standard?
Made-to-order sizes are available on the HD2250. The stock configuration is 8 inch center-to-center with a 4-1/4 inch projection; if your opening needs a different span, that is a special order rather than a stock pull, so specify the center-to-center you need when you place it.
5) What finish does the Rockwood HD2250 come in, and will it match my other stainless door hardware?
One finish: 630, satin stainless steel, also called US32D. That is the standard commercial satin stainless used across most institutional openings, so it matches typical satin stainless pulls, push plates and kick plates on the same door. If your building is standardized on a brass or bronze finish, this bar will not match.
6) Will a 4-1/4 inch projection protector bar clear my door swing and frame?
The HD2250 stands 4-1/4 inches off the door face, so check what is beside the opening before you mount it. On a door that swings back against a wall, or an opening in a narrow corridor, that projection is what hits first. It also means the bar sits well outside the plane of the trim it is protecting, which is the point, but it needs clear space through the full arc of the swing.
7) Is the Rockwood HD2250 suitable for a high traffic commercial or institutional door, or is it a residential pull?
It is a commercial-duty part. The HD2250 is stainless steel and rated by Rockwood as commercial, the kind of protector bar used on institutional buildings, offices, retail, schools, detention, sports facilities and hospitality openings. For a service corridor or a cart-traffic door, that is the right class of hardware; a light residential pull is not.
8) Is the Rockwood HD2250 a door pull or a latch guard?
Neither exactly. It is a protector bar, a heavy stainless bar through-bolted to the door face to shield the door and its trim from impact. It does not cover the latch or the strike gap the way a latch guard does, and it is not sold as a lockable or operable part. If you are trying to stop someone from shimming a latch, that is a different piece of hardware.
