Rockwood HD2240 Heavy Duty Protector Bars

Projection is 3-3/4 inches off the door face. That is a real stand-off, so check it against anything in the swing path: adjacent walls, a door held open flat against a corridor wall, wall stops, and hardware on the opposing leaf of a pair. On a door in a tight vestibule or an opening that swings back against a return wall, 3-3/4 inches is often the number that decides whether the bar works there.

Center-to-center on the HD2240 is 8 inches. That is the dimension to lay out on the door, and the one to compare against the holes already drilled if you are swapping bars on an existing opening. If the existing prep is not on 8 inch centers you will be drilling new holes, not reusing them.

The HD2240 is a heavy duty protector bar that mounts across the door face to take the abuse of carts, gurneys, and hand trucks instead of the door skin and the trim behind it. Stainless steel construction, and it projects 3-3/4 inches off the door, so it stands proud enough to be the first thing that gets hit. Commercial duty item, common on service corridors, kitchens, loading areas, and back-of-house openings in hospitals, schools, and hotels.

Made to order sizes are available on the HD2240, so a non-standard door width or a specific bar length can be handled rather than forcing you to a stock size. Worth using on odd openings, pairs with unequal leaves, or where you are matching bars already installed elsewhere in the building.

One finish: 630, satin stainless steel, also called US32D. That is the standard satin stainless used across commercial push plates, pulls, kick plates, and lever trim, so a fleet of doors already specified US32D will match. If your building standard is a brass or bronze finish, the HD2240 will not blend with it.

They solve different halves of the problem. A kick plate is flat against the door and protects the skin only. A protector bar stands off the face, 3-3/4 inches on the HD2240, so it absorbs the hit before a cart ever reaches the door or the lever and push trim mounted on it. If carts are gouging the door surface, a plate is enough. If they are wrecking hardware and edges, the bar is the part that stops it. Plenty of high traffic openings get both.

Solid stainless steel, finished 630 satin stainless. That matters for wash-down areas, kitchens, and exterior-adjacent service doors where a plated finish would eventually rust through at the impact points. Stainless takes the scuffing without exposing a different base metal underneath.
