1) Which Sargent locks does the C10 cylinder fit?
The C10 bored lock cylinder is built for Sargent 10 Line, 7 Line, 6500 and 7500 Line series bored locks. If the lock on your door is one of those four families, this is the replacement cylinder for it. It is a conventional key system cylinder, not a large-format interchangeable core, so it drops into locks set up for conventional keying.
2) What is the difference between the Sargent C10-1, C10-2 and C10-3 cylinders?
Function decides which one you order. C10-1 covers all functions except hotel. C10-2 is the hotel function (50) cylinder. C10-3 is the emergency release cointurn cylinder for the 65 function. Pick the one that matches the lock function already on the door, because the cylinders are not interchangeable across those functions.
3) Can I get Sargent C10 cylinders keyed alike across a building?
Yes. Keying is a required choice when you order: standard keying, KD for keyed different, or KA for keyed alike. Keyed alike is what you want when one key should open a run of doors, for instance a set of mechanical rooms or a tenant suite. Keyed different is the choice for individual unit doors. Ordered as standard, the cylinder ships 1-bitted with two nickel silver keys, which means it is not usable as a finished key until it is bitted or you specify KD or KA.
4) Which keyway do I order for a Sargent C10 cylinder to work with my existing keys?
Nine Sargent keyways are offered: LA (the standard), LB, LC, LE, LF, LG, LJ, LK and LL. The cylinder has to be ordered in the same keyway family as the keys already in use on the building, or the existing key will not enter it. If you are starting fresh with no legacy system, LA is the standard choice. If you are adding to an existing Sargent system, pull a key and read the keyway stamp before ordering.
5) Are Sargent C10 cylinders Grade 1?
The C10 cylinder is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Grade 1, the top grade in the auxiliary lock and cylinder standard. That is the level most institutional and government specs call for on commercial openings, so if the drawing says Grade 1 cylinder, this meets it.
6) I am replacing a worn cylinder on a hotel guest room lock. Will the standard C10 work?
No, not the standard one. A hotel function lock (function 50) needs the C10-2 cylinder specifically; C10-1 covers everything except hotel. Order the wrong one and the shutout feature will not operate. Same caution on emergency release openings running the 65 function, which take the C10-3 cointurn cylinder.
7) What finishes do Sargent C10 bored lock cylinders come in?
Three: 04 satin brass with clear coat, 15 satin nickel plated with clear coat, and BSP black suede powder coat. The cylinder face is the visible part on the outside of the lock, so match it to the lever or knob already on the door. On a 626 satin chrome lockset, 15 satin nickel is the closest match of the three.
8) Is the Sargent C10 cylinder for commercial or residential doors?
Commercial. It is a replacement cylinder for Sargent commercial bored locksets, the kind found in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and municipal buildings. For a house door with a residential-grade knob, this is not the part.
