1) What is the difference between the Sargent C11-1 and C11-2 cylinder?
The C11-1 covers all standard bored lock functions in the Sargent 11 Line. The C11-2 is built specifically for the Hotel function (50). If you are rekeying or replacing a cylinder on a hotel-function lever lock, the C11-2 is the one you need, and the emergency key for that function is ordered separately.
2) Will a Sargent C11 cylinder key into my existing Sargent master key system?
Yes, provided your system uses a Sargent conventional keyway. The C11 is a conventional key system cylinder in 6-pin construction, and it can be set up on a master key system by submitting a SARGENT Keyed Order Lead Sheet with your keying details. Nine keyways are offered: LA (the standard), LB, LC, LE, LF, LG, LJ, LK and LL. Order the keyway that matches the rest of your building, not the default.
3) How do Sargent C11 cylinders come keyed if I don't specify anything?
They ship 1-bitted unless you specify otherwise. A 1-bitted cylinder is not a working keyed cylinder for a tenant, it is meant for a locksmith or a keying house to pin to your system. If you want usable cylinders out of the box, choose KD for keyed different (random keying) or KA for keyed alike so a single key runs the group.
4) Are Sargent C11 cylinders Grade 1 for a school or hospital spec?
The C11 carries ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Grade 1 certification, with the exception of the hotel cylinders. So for a spec calling Grade 1 cylinders on commercial openings in education, healthcare, government or multi-tenant buildings, the standard C11 meets it. The hotel-function version is the one to flag if your spec has no carve-out.
