1) Does the Sargent & Greenleaf black dial come with the dial ring?
No ring is included. The black and white front reading dial is sold on its own and is meant to be used with the R004-002 ring, which you order separately. A key is included with the dial.
2) How thick a safe door will this S&G dial and spindle handle?
The spindle accommodates a door thickness up to 3.406 inches, with an overall length of roughly 4-1/2 inches. If your safe door is thicker than that, this dial and spindle assembly won't reach.
3) What is the spindle thread on the Sargent & Greenleaf black dial?
Threading is 5/16 x 40, and the spindle itself is brass. That thread has to match the lock body you are mounting to, so confirm the 5/16x40 spec against the 6700 series lock on the safe before you thread it in.
4) Is this dial front reading, and is it the small knob style?
Yes on both counts. It's a front reading dial, meaning you read the combination index at the front rather than the top, with a small knob and the S&G logo in the center. The face is black with white numbering, 3.75 inches in diameter.
5) I'm replacing a worn dial on a safe, do I need the lock body too?
Not necessarily. This is a combination dial assembly, a replacement part for the outside of the door, not the lock case itself. If your 6700 series mechanical lock is still working correctly, the dial plus the R004-002 ring is what you need. Match the 5/16x40 spindle thread and confirm your door is no thicker than 3.406 inches.
6) Does the S&G safe dial have a handing, left or right?
It's non-handed, so the same dial serves a left or right hung safe door. No hand needs to be specified when ordering.
