Satco Lighting S29403 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Satco S29403 PAR20 LED go in an enclosed or recessed can fixture?
Yes. The S29403 is an enclosed rated lamp, so it can run in a sealed or gasketed recessed can without the heat trapping shortening its life. It also carries a Wet location rating and is listed for both indoor and outdoor use, which covers exterior soffit cans and covered entry fixtures.
2) Is 4000K the right color for retail or office, or should I use a warmer bulb?
4000K is a neutral white, cooler and cleaner than the 2700K to 3000K most people expect in residential spaces. It reads well in retail, offices, lobbies, corridors, and back-of-house. If you are relamping apartments or hospitality guest rooms where the rest of the fixtures are warm, 4000K will look obviously blue next to them. The color is fixed, not selectable, so pick the temperature at order time.
3) Does the Satco S29403 meet California Title 24?
It is California T24 listed, which is what you need when spec'ing lamps into California residential and certain commercial projects subject to Title 24 lighting requirements. It is also FCC compliant. Note it is not DLC listed, so it will not qualify for utility rebate programs that require DLC.
4) Will this Satco PAR20 dim on my existing wall dimmer?
The S29403 is a dimmable LED lamp. Because it draws only 0.054 amps, a handful of them may fall under the minimum load of an older incandescent (leading edge) dimmer, which shows up as flicker or drop-out at the low end. For retrofits on legacy dimmers, an LED-rated dimmer is the fix.
5) Does this bulb render colors well enough for merchandise and artwork display?
Yes, it has a CRI of 90, which is the threshold generally specified for retail display, gallery, and hospitality accent lighting. Combined with the clear lens and narrow 25 degree beam, it is built to put accurate color on a specific object rather than wash a room.
6) Can I aim this PAR20 base-up in a track head or does it have to point down?
Burning position is Universal, so it can be run base-up, base-down, or horizontal. That matters for track heads, adjustable gimbal cans, and wall-mounted accent fixtures where the lamp ends up at an angle.
7) How long will these last before maintenance has to relamp?
Rated at 25,000 average hours. On a retail schedule of roughly 12 hours a day, that is around five to six years of service, which is why these get spec'd for high-ceiling accent and track runs where getting a lift in is the expensive part of the job.
8) Will this bulb work as a three-way lamp?
No. The S29403 is a single-output lamp, not three-way. In a three-way socket it will light on one of the positions only. If you need stepped output, use a three-way rated lamp or put the fixture on a dimmer instead, which this lamp does support.
9) Is the housing on this PAR20 metal or plastic, and does that matter outdoors?
The lens is thermoplastic (PBT) with a clear finish, the base is plastic, and the housing is silver. It is a wet location rated lamp, so the plastic construction is part of how it takes exposure without the corrosion you get on some metal-bodied lamps. Plastic bases also do not seize in the socket the way an aluminum base can in a damp exterior can.
10) How many of these can I put on a 20 amp lighting circuit?
Each lamp draws 0.054 amps at 120V, 60Hz. That is a very small load per lamp, so the practical limit on a branch circuit is almost never the lamps themselves, it is the dimmer or control device minimum and maximum load and the inrush rating of the switching gear. Size the control to the fixture count, not the other way around.
