Schlage ALX Series Single Lever, CL Closed Lever

The ALX CL closed lever is lock trim, not a full lockset. You are buying the lever handle itself for a Schlage ALX cylindrical lock, so the chassis and latch have to already be in the door or ordered separately. If you need a working lock for an empty door prep, order the complete ALX function lock instead of the trim alone.

Handing is not a separate order line here. The ALX CL lever is field reversible, so one part covers both hands and the installer sets it on the door. For a property manager stocking spares across a building, that means a single lever sitting on the shelf works on any opening in either swing.

Non-keyed. The ALX CL closed lever carries no cylinder and no keyway, so it is the trim side for passage, privacy, or the inside of a keyed function. If the opening needs to be locked with a key, you need the keyed ALX function, not this lever.

ALX is a commercial, Grade 2, medium duty cylindrical line. That suits offices, apartment interiors, classrooms, and back-of-house doors. For a high traffic main entrance, a stairwell, or anything taking constant abuse, step up to a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical or mortise lock rather than specifying ALX.

If you are adding doors to a building already running ALX, order the same three letter lever code that is on your existing openings (RHO for Rhodes, SPA for Sparta, and so on) and the new levers will match the rest of the fleet.

Nine finishes, by BHMA number: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 643E aged bronze. Match on the number, not the name, since 626 satin chrome and 613 oil rubbed bronze are the two that usually turn up on existing commercial openings.

No. ALX is a strictly mechanical line with no electrified option on this trim, so there is no way to wire it, fail safe or fail secure. If the opening has to tie into access control, specify an electrified cylindrical lock or an electric strike behind a mechanical ALX instead.

The ALX CL lever is non-keyed trim and will not give you a dormitory function. For that, look at the Cal-Royal CALDOR238 CAL101, which is a dormitory dead latch. Different brand and different keying, so do not mix it into a Schlage keyed system without checking the cylinder side first.

Zinc and steel. That is a cast lever on a steel chassis interface, which is why the line sits at medium duty rather than heavy duty. It holds up to normal office and multifamily traffic but is not the specification for an abused exterior opening.

It is a lever handle rather than a knob, which is the form used on commercial openings where a knob is not acceptable. Operable force and mounting height depend on the chassis and the installation, so specify those from the lock function you pair it with.
