1) How does an office/entrance function lock like the Schlage ALX50 actually work day to day?
There is a key cylinder on the outside and a push button on the inside. Push the button and the outside lever locks; unlock it with the key outside or just by turning the inside lever. The inside lever is always free, so anyone inside can walk out without unlocking anything first.
