1) Does the Schlage ALX53 come with a cylinder, or do I have to supply my own core?
Depends which cylinder option you pick, and three of the four ship without one. B is SFIC less core, J is FSIC less core, and L is less conventional cylinder, all three arrive ready for a core you supply or already own. P is the only configured option: a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the Schlage C keyway, and it comes with 2 keys. If you key your building on your own SFIC system, order B and drop your core in.
2) What is the difference between the Schlage ALX53 and the ALX50 entrance function?
Both are keyed entrance locks with a key cylinder outside and a push button inside, but the ALX53 is the ANSI F109 entrance function and the ALX50 is ANSI F82 entrance/office. On the 53, pushing the button locks the outside lever and a key outside or turning the inside lever unlocks it; push AND turn the button and the outside key only retracts the latch, it will not release the button, so the door stays locked until someone returns the button by hand from inside. That push/turn state is what people buy the 53 for on a door they want to stay locked regardless of key use. If you want the button to release automatically, look at the ALX50 F82 instead.
3) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand Schlage ALX53?
No handing to specify. The ALX53 is non-handed, so one lock covers both swings and a property manager can stock a single part number for the whole building. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress no matter how the button is set.
4) Is the Schlage ALX53 fire rated and does it meet ADA?
