Schlage Electronics CO100MS40KPRHO626JYA6R – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Schlage CO-100 privacy mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The CO-100 mortise lock is built for 1-3/4 inch doors only, so a 1-3/8 inch door is out of range. If the opening is a thinner older interior door, you need a different chassis. Among the electronic mortise locks we carry, the Alarm Lock Trilogy DL3500CR covers 1-5/8 to 1-7/8 inch doors, though it is a classroom function rather than privacy.
2) Does the Schlage CO-100 keypad lock come with a cylinder for the key override?
No cylinder ships with it. The CO-10040KYA6 is ordered less cylinder, prepped for a Schlage 6-pin full size interchangeable core, so you supply the FSIC core and key it into your existing system. Mechanical key override is standard on the lock itself, you are only adding the core.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering this Schlage CO-100 mortise lock?
Yes, handing is a required selection: RH, LH, RHR, or LHR. The lock body itself is field reversible, but the order is placed by hand, so pick the one that matches the opening. Reverse bevel doors (door swings out of the room) take the RHR or LHR option.
4) Will the Schlage CO-100 mortise lock work in my existing ANSI mortise pocket and strike?
It is a standard ANSI A156.13 Series 1000 mortise prep, and the lock ships against a 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch square corner box strike with a 1-3/16 inch lip. If your frame already carries that ANSI strike cutout, the lock drops in. Older frames with a non-ANSI or radius corner strike will need the frame prep changed or the strike swapped.
5) Can I manage codes on the Schlage CO-100 without software or a network?
All programming happens at the keypad. An administrator adds or deletes user PIN codes and changes preferences or functions right at the door, with up to 500 unique 3 to 6 digit codes stored on the lock. There is no host software and no network connection. If you need central management across a portfolio, a networked lock such as the Alarm Lock DL1300NW Trilogy Networx wireless is the different route.
6) Can I use my existing master key system with the Schlage CO-100?
Yes. The CO Series is built to work with an existing master key system, and this model takes a Schlage 6-pin FSIC core so it slots into the same keyway hierarchy as the rest of the building. Schlage's full range of cylinder options applies, and CO levers are made to accept cylinders from several other OEM brands as well.
7) What is a mechanical alternative to the Schlage CO-100 privacy mortise lock if the door does not need a keypad?
The Schlage CO-100 privacy mortise lock is a battery operated electronic lock with a Grade 1 privacy/bed/bath function on a 1-3/4 inch door. If the opening only needs a mechanical privacy mortise lock, the Cal-Royal NM8440 is a heavy duty Grade 1 privacy mortise lockset with deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Hager 3840S is a Grade 1 privacy mortise lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. Both operate by thumbturn rather than a PIN code, so there are no batteries to maintain and no codes to program.
8) Which keypad mortise lock should I use instead if the door needs classroom function rather than privacy?
The Schlage CO-100 mortise lock covered here is built for the privacy/bed/bath function. For a keypad mortise lock in classroom function, the Alarm Lock DL2700CR Trilogy T2 is a Grade 1 electronic mortise lock with classroom function and weatherproof design for doors 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch, and the Alarm Lock DL3500CR is a Grade 1 Trilogy electronic mortise lock with 300 user codes in classroom function over the same door thickness range. The TownSteel FME-2000 is a Grade 1 heavy duty classroom mortise lockset that uses RFID credentials instead of a PIN pad on 1-3/4 inch doors.
9) What keypad mortise lock competes most directly with the Schlage CO-100 for a standalone battery opening?
The closest peers in keypad-credential mortise locks are the Dormakaba E-Plex 2066, an electronic pushbutton keyless mortise lock, and the BEST 45HZ EZ Series electronic keypad mortise lock with key override. The Accentra nexTouch NTM623-NR is a Generation 3 mortise lock with a capacitive touchscreen keypad and cylinder override, no deadbolt. The Schlage CO-100 differs in that it is specified as a Grade 1, standalone, battery operated lock running on four AA cells in privacy/bed/bath function with occupancy indication available as a programmable option.
10) If the opening needs to be wired to an access control panel instead of standalone, what mortise lock replaces the CO-100?
The Schlage CO-100 is a standalone, battery operated lock that stores user rights on the lock itself. For a hardwired opening, the BEST 45HW Series is a wired electromechanical heavy duty mortise lock with 12V/24V operation, the Command Access ML190 is a heavy-duty motorized mortise lock with field selectable EL/EU operation on 24VDC in storeroom function, and the Schlage L9092EU with 03A trim is a heavy duty electric lock/unlock outside lever mortise lock, keyed outside with request to exit, at 12/24VDC on 1-3/4 inch doors.
11) For a behavioral health or patient room, is the CO-100 privacy mortise lock the right choice?
The Schlage CO-100 is a Grade 1 privacy/bed/bath electronic mortise lock with a keypad and lever trim, which projects from the door face. Where ligature resistance drives the spec, the TownSteel MRX-L-01 is a Grade 1 heavy duty anti-ligature lever mortise lockset in passage function for 1-3/4 inch doors, the MRX-A-01 is the same passage function with satin stainless ligature resistant arch trim, and the Marks USA 5PDN is a Grade 1 hospital passage mortise push/pull paddleset described as ligature resistant and ADA compliant in satin stainless steel.
12) What does the privacy function do on a keypad lock like the Schlage CO-100?
Privacy/bed/bath function means the room can be secured from the inside for occupancy, with PIN code entry and mechanical key override for staff. Schlage also offers a programmable occupancy indication option on privacy function CO locks, which is what makes it workable on restrooms, dressing rooms, maternity and nursing rooms. If you need a door that stays locked to the outside and free egress inside, you want a storeroom or classroom function instead, not this one.
13) How is the Schlage CO-100 powered, and how often do batteries need changing?
Four AA batteries in the lock, no wiring and no panel. It is a standalone device with up to two years of battery life and a low battery status indicator, which is why it works on pool gates, breezeways and other spots where pulling power is not practical.
14) Is the Schlage CO-100 mortise lock rated for a fire door and heavy traffic?
Grade 1, heavy duty, and the CO Series carries UL 10C along with UL 294, UL Canada, FCC Part 15 and ADA. The mortise chassis meets ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Grade 1. It is a commercial lock, built for institutional door traffic rather than residential use.
15) Can I get the Schlage CO-100 keypad lock to match the levers and finish on my other doors?
Lever style and finish are both selectable: Athens, Rhodes or Sparta levers in 625 bright chrome or 626 satin chrome. Those are the same Schlage lever designs used across their mechanical lines, so a keypad opening can be made to read the same as the mechanical doors down the hall.
16) What else could I look at if I need RFID credentials instead of a PIN keypad on a mortise lock?
The CO-100 is PIN code only, with mechanical key override. For card or fob credentials on a Grade 1 mortise, the TownSteel FME-2000 Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise lockset with RFID for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Accentra nexTouch NTM623-NR uses a capacitive touchscreen keypad with cylinder override. Both are different credential models, so the keying and enrollment workflow changes.
17) Is the Alarm Lock DL4500 a direct substitute for the Schlage CO-100 privacy mortise lock?
They are not the same type of device. The Alarm Lock DL4500 is a Grade 1 electronic mortise deadbolt with 2,000 user codes and a privacy keypad, so it throws a deadbolt only and carries no latch or lever. The Schlage CO-100 in privacy/bed/bath function is a mortise lock with lever trim in Athens, Rhodes or Sparta styles and holds up to 500 PIN codes. The DL4500 also lists a 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch door thickness while the CO-100 is specified for 1-3/4 inch doors, so verify the door before swapping one for the other.
18) We want card or mobile credentials rather than PIN codes on a mortise opening. What are the options?
The Schlage CO-100 uses 3 to 6 digit PIN codes as its credential and manages up to 500 of them at the keypad. For credential types other than a PIN, the Dormakaba E-Plex E5086 is a Grade 1 pushbutton and card mortise lock in entry/egress back-to-back configuration, the Dormakaba Saffire LX-I-M002 is an RFID mortise lockset with BLE mobile access at BHMA Grade 2, and the TownSteel FME-4000 is a Grade 1 heavy duty electronic intruder classroom mortise lockset with RFID on 1-3/4 inch doors.
19) What is a simpler mortise lock for a restroom or closet door that does not need any electronics at all?
For a non-electronic opening, the Schlage PM010 is a Grade 1 passage latch mortise lock, non-keyed, for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Falcon MA101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise passage lock with field reversible operation and a fire rating. Both are latch-only and give no privacy control. If the door still needs to lock from inside, the Hager 3840S Grade 1 privacy mortise lock keeps the privacy function without a keypad. The Schlage CO-100 adds PIN code control and a programmable occupancy indication on the privacy function.
20) Will a Cal-Royal NM8080 or Accentra 8805FL work in place of the CO-100 on a storeroom door?
Those are storeroom function locks, not privacy. The Accentra 8805FL is a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock in the 8800 Series with an Arcadia lever, and the Cal-Royal NM8080 is a heavy duty Grade 1 storeroom mortise lockset with an interchangeable core option for 1-3/4 inch doors. Both are mechanical key-operated locks. The Schlage CO-100 covered here is a Grade 1 privacy/bed/bath electronic mortise lock, so it is the wrong function for a storeroom opening; the CO Series is offered in classroom/storeroom function as a separate configuration.
21) Can I use a mortise deadbolt like the Sargent 4874 instead of the CO-100 for a private room?
A deadbolt alone will not do the same job. The Sargent 4874 is a double cylinder mortise deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset, and the Kaba Ilco 185 Series is a no-handing mortise deadbolt, so both secure the door but leave you needing separate latching hardware and a key on the inside. The Schlage CO-100 privacy mortise lock latches and locks with lever trim, is field reversible for handing, and takes a 1-3/16 inch lip, 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch square corner box strike.
