1) Will the Schlage L9440 privacy mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The L9440 is built for a 1-3/4 inch door and that is the only thickness it is set up for. On older interior openings running 1-3/8 inch you need a different prep or a different lock.
