Schlage 620/631 Series heavy-duty pushbuttons are commonly used to control ingress and/or egress of a door. 620 and 631 Series come standard with a momentary switch but feature many factory orderable options including delayed or maintained action and narrow stile faceplates. 1) Will the Schlage 625RD EX push to exit button fit a standard single gang electrical box?
The 625RD EX mounts to a single gang box. The button itself is a 2-3/4 inch mushroom head on a stainless steel faceplate, so the head overhangs the plate considerably. Make sure nothing (frame stop, adjacent trim, a door pull) sits within that swing of the button face. If your mounting spot is a narrow mullion or stile rather than a wall, order the narrow stile version, which comes on a 1-3/4 x 4-1/2 inch stainless plate.
2) What voltage does the Schlage 625 push to exit button run on?
12/24 VDC on the 625 pushbutton. The switch contacts are rated 3A at 30 VDC, and the LED option runs 12-24 VDC at .025A at 28VDC. That covers the usual 12 or 24 volt access control power supply feeding a mag lock or electric strike, and the 3A contact rating means the button can break most strike or lock loads directly without a relay in between.
3) Do I need the delayed action or the maintained option on a push to exit button, or is the standard momentary fine?
Standard momentary is what most egress installs use: press it, the lock drops for as long as the button is held, and it releases the moment you let go. Order delayed pneumatic action (DA) when you need the door to stay unlocked long enough for someone to get through after the press, adjustable 0 to 60 seconds. Order alternate action (AA, maintained) when you want the button to latch the door unlocked until someone presses it again, which is how people hold a door open for a delivery or a move-in. All three carry the same 3A at 30 VDC rating; the DA version uses form Z contacts.
4) Can I get a Schlage 625 mushroom button with DPDT contacts and delayed action together?
No. The double pole double throw switch and the delayed pneumatic action option are mutually exclusive on the 625, so you pick one. If you need a second set of contacts to signal an alarm panel, a camera, or a door position input at the same time you release the lock, take the DPDT and handle any unlock delay in the access control board or a timer relay instead.

The 621 has a 1-1/4 inch button, the 623 a 1-5/8 inch mushroom button, and the 625 a 2-3/4 inch mushroom button, all three on stainless steel faceplates with a translucent cone. The 631 is a 1-1/4 inch metal button with a metal cone on an extreme duty zinc faceplate, which is the one to use where the button takes abuse or weather. 8) Does the Schlage 625 mushroom button have an illuminated or glow in the dark cone for a dark exit?
