1) Does the Schlage L462L mortise deadbolt come with cylinders, or do I have to order them separately?
The L462L is a less conventional cylinder deadbolt, so the two cylinders it needs are not in the box. It is a double cylinder function, key on both sides, so you supply two conventional mortise cylinders. Schlage's standard for the L Series is a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the S123 keyway, which is what you match if you want it to key into the rest of the building. Keying is selected on the order as keyed different (standard), keyed alike for multiple locks, or no cylinder at all if you are supplying your own.
2) What strike and frame prep does the Schlage L462 small case deadbolt need?
It ships with the 10-079 strike, a 1-1/8 x 3-1/2 inch square corner strike with a dust box, cut to ANSI 115.5 frame prep. If your frames are already prepped to ANSI 115.5 the strike drops straight in. The deadbolt throws 1 inch, so the box behind the strike has to be deep enough to take it.
3) What do the IS and OS indicator codes mean when ordering a Schlage L462L?
IS puts the status indicator on the interior side of the door, OS puts it on the exterior side. Then you pick the wording: DND reads DO NOT DISTURB, LOC reads UNLOCKED/LOCKED, OCC reads VACANT/OCCUPIED, and SYM is symbols only with no text. Pick the side by who needs to read the status. A hotel or dorm room usually wants OS-DND so staff in the corridor can see it; a restroom or exam room typically wants OS-OCC.
4) Is the Schlage L462L a full lockset or just a deadbolt?
