Schlage L9092EUJ LATA 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens at the Schlage L9092EU when the power drops or the access control system fails?
In the EU configuration the outside lever locks on power loss, so the door stays secured. You get in with a key in the outside cylinder. The inside lever is always free for egress, so people can leave regardless of power state. If you want the opposite behavior (outside lever free on power failure), that is the EL setting, and the L9000 electrified locks are customer-selectable EL/EU.
2) Will the L9092EU electrified mortise lock work on a 1-3/4 inch door, and what mortise pocket does it need?
1-3/4 inch is the door thickness it is built for, which is the standard commercial door. The lock case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door needs a mortise pocket cut for that case. Other door thicknesses are handled through L Series options rather than the standard build.
3) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand version of this Schlage electrified mortise lock?
No handing to specify. The lock is field reversible, so one part number covers both hands and you set it on site. That is useful for a property manager stocking spares across a building with mixed swings.
4) What voltage and current draw should I size the power supply for on a Schlage L9092EU?
It runs on 12 or 24VDC and auto-detects which it is fed, drawing 400mA. Size the supply for 400mA per lock plus whatever else is on the circuit, and remember a fail secure lock is energized only when you want the outside lever free, so continuous draw depends on how the opening is used.
5) Will the L9092EU latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches with square corners, a box, and a 1-3/16 inch lip. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latchbolt with an anti-friction tongue. If your frame already has a standard 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 square corner ANSI mortise strike prep, the supplied strike drops into it; a curved or radius corner prep will need the frame reworked or a matching strike.
6) Can I get this lock on my facility's existing key system, or order it without a cylinder?
Three cylinder routes: P for a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the C keyway, J for a full size interchangeable core prep supplied less core (so you drop in your own SFIC core), or L for less conventional cylinder if your locksmith is supplying it. Standard build is a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the S123 keyway. Keying is specified KD keyed different or KA keyed alike across multiple locks. Note that with interchangeable core cylinders the assembly is Grade 2 security rather than Grade 1.
7) Is the Schlage L9092EU rated for a fire door?
Yes. The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front identify the listing. The electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking. It also meets ADA requirements and complies with the California Referenced Standards Code where the lever return to door is 1/2 inch or less.
8) Will these levers match the Von Duprin exit devices and other Schlage trim already on my building?
All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT, so an electrified mortise opening can be made to match the exit device openings down the corridor. Lever design here is the M52 Latitude. Nine finishes are offered: bright brass 605, satin brass 606, antique brass 609, satin bronze 612, oil rubbed bronze 613, matte black 622, bright chrome 625, satin chrome 626 and satin stainless 630. Rose and escutcheon choices are A and B wrought rose, L full face escutcheon, and N escutcheon.
9) What is the closest alternative to the Schlage L9092EU if I need a 24V electrified mortise lock with an electric unlock function?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in a storeroom function. The Schlage L9092EU differs in that it auto-detects 12 or 24V DC rather than running 24V only, and its outside lever is continuously locked or unlocked electrically with the latchbolt retracted by outside key or inside lever. If the opening needs latch retraction for automatic operator or card-reader release, the LPM190 addresses that; if it needs lever control with cylinder override, the L9092EU does.
10) I need electrified latch retraction on a mortise door, not electrified lever control. What should I be looking at instead of the L9092EU?
Look at the Command Access LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis, which runs on 24VDC, or the SDC 7600 Series Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control. Both retract the latch itself electrically. The Schlage L9092EU instead electrically locks or unlocks the outside lever at 12 or 24V DC while the latchbolt is retracted by the outside key or inside lever, so it does not pull the latch back on signal.
11) For a behavioral health or institutional opening, is the L9092EU the right electrified mortise lock?
The Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis built specifically for asylum, institution and utility function, which is the function most behavioral health openings are specified with. The Schlage L9092EU is a single cylinder keyed function with the inside lever always free for immediate egress, so it is not an institution function lock. Schlage does offer ligature resistant trim in the L Series if the L9092EU function otherwise matches the opening.
12) Which of these electrified mortise locks carries an ANSI Grade 1 rating for a school corridor door?
The Schlage L9092EU is Grade 1 and the L9000 lock is tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 security and operational, UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and meets ADA requirements. The SDC 7600 Series motorized latch retraction mortise lockset is also listed as Grade 1. The other electrified mortise chassis in the group, including the Command Access ML04EU and the DynaLock EML-1, are described by function and duty level rather than grade, so verify the rating against the spec before submitting.
13) Can I add door position or latch monitoring to this electrified mortise lock?
Yes, as an ordering option: LX latchbolt monitor or DPS door position sensor. Pick one at order time if your access control head end wants a door or latch status input; retrofitting monitoring into a lock body later means pulling the lock. The L9000 electrified platform also supports RX and deadbolt monitoring across the family.
14) Should I use an electrified mortise lock like this or a motorized latch retraction mortise lock?
An EU/EL electrified lock like the L9092EU controls the outside lever only, the latchbolt stays projected and is retracted mechanically by lever or key. That suits card reader control on a single leaf where you still want positive latching. Motorized latch retraction pulls the latch itself so the door pushes open with no lever motion, which is what you want for automatic operators or push-pull openings; the SDC 7600 Series and the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH are examples of that type in our line. Retraction locks draw more current and generally need a supply matched to the motor.
15) What are the alternatives if I need an electrified mortise lock but not the Schlage L Series trim?
For a storeroom function electrified mortise chassis, the DynaLock EML-1 and the Command Access ML1080LB are both heavy duty storeroom options, and the Command Access ML04EU covers asylum, institution and utility function work. The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch. Where the spec calls for Grade 1, the SDC 7600 Series is stated Grade 1 for 1-3/4 inch doors, same as the L9092EU.
16) Is the L9092EU heavy enough for a high traffic school or hospital entry?
It is a heavy duty commercial mortise lock that exceeds ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 security and operational standards, tested and certified under A156.13. The case is cold rolled steel with zinc dichromate plating. A security blocking hub stops picking by pulling the levers off. It also meets the Buy American Act and carries Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings, which matters on public and coastal work.
17) Does the L9092EU have a deadbolt, and can it be keyed from both sides?
No deadbolt. It is a single cylinder, latchbolt-only lock: the 3/4 inch latch is deadlocked by an auxiliary latch when the door closes, and it is retracted by the outside key or the inside lever. The cylinder is on the outside only, as the override. If the opening needs a thrown deadbolt, that is a different L Series function.
18) Is there a non-electrified mortise lock I can use on the doors that do not need access control?
The Command Access ML1080LB is a heavy-duty storeroom function mortise lock chassis without electrification, which suits openings that only need key-outside, free-egress-inside operation. The Schlage L9092EU is an electronic lock operating at 12/24VDC, so on a mixed project you would use the electrified L9092EU only where a reader or remote release is wired and a mechanical chassis elsewhere.
19) What is the difference between the Schlage L9092EU and the SDC 7800 PRO Series mortise lock?
The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, fitting 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage L9092EU is a motor-driven electrified mortise lock that auto-detects 12 or 24V DC and draws 400mA, also for 1-3/4 inch doors, with customer-selectable EL/EU and optional latchbolt monitor or door position sensor. Schlage offers free-wheeling Vandlgard outside trim as an option on most functions including electrified, which is the comparable feature to the 7800's clutch.
20) The DynaLock EML-1 is spec'd on my drawing but I want a Schlage equivalent. Does the L9092EU match?
The DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in a storeroom function. The Schlage L9092EU is a keyed single cylinder electrified mortise lock whose outside lever is continuously locked or unlocked by 12 or 24V DC with outside cylinder override, so it behaves like an electrified storeroom lock when unpowered in the EU setting. Confirm with the specifier that electric lock/unlock of the lever, rather than a fixed storeroom function, is acceptable before substituting.
21) Can I get a high security cylinder or a free-wheeling vandal resistant lever on this Schlage mortise lock?
Both are available on the L Series. For high security, specify a Primus 20-500 Series cylinder, which is UL437 listed. For abuse-prone openings, the Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option is offered on most functions including the electrified ones. Other options include the 180 degree visibility indicator, tactile warning, anti-microbial coatings, and Gold Standard ligature resistant trim for behavioral health.
