Schlage L9092EUJ LONA 626 RX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the Schlage L9092EU when the power fails or the access control drops?
Power loss locks the outside lever. The L9092EU is the fail secure (EU) version, so the outside lever stays unlocked only while 12 or 24V DC is applied; kill the power and the outside lever locks. Entry is still possible from outside with a key through the cylinder, and the inside lever is always free for immediate egress regardless of power. If you need the opposite behavior, where power failure releases the outside lever, that is the EL configuration.
2) Will the Schlage L9092EU electrified mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The L9092EU is built for 1-3/4 inch doors as standard. Schlage does publish door thickness options across the L Series, but the standard build is single thickness at 1-3/4, which is the usual commercial door. The mortise pocket has to accept a case measuring 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches.
3) Do I have to order the Schlage L9092EU handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The L9092EU is field reversible, so one lock covers left and right hand openings and you can stock a single part number across a building.
4) Will the L9092EU latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 square corner box strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches with a 1-3/16 inch lip, and a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with an anti-friction tongue. If your existing frame is prepped for a standard 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 square corner ASA strike, the supplied strike drops into that cutout. Radius corner frames or T-strike preps will need the frame reworked or a different strike specified.
5) How much current does the Schlage L9092EU draw, and what power supply do I need?
400mA draw, on either 12 or 24V DC. Size the supply and the transfer hinge or electric door cord accordingly, and count 400mA per opening when you are running several doors off one supply.
6) Can the L9092EU tell my access control panel when someone exits from the inside?
Yes, that is the RX (request to exit) feature built into this configuration. Turning the inside lever signals the panel so it can shunt the alarm rather than report a forced door. You can add monitoring on top of it: LX latchbolt monitor tells the panel whether the latch is actually thrown, and DPS door position sensor reports whether the door leaf is closed. Pick those when you order.
7) What do I need to specify on the cylinder when ordering a Schlage L9092EU?
Three cylinder routes. P gives you a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the C keyway, J is a full size interchangeable core prep supplied less core so you can drop in your own FSIC, and L comes less conventional cylinder for a locksmith to fit one. Keying is a separate choice: keyed different, keyed alike across a group of locks, or none if you went less cylinder. The lock is single cylinder, keyed outside only.
8) Is the Schlage L9092EU rated for a fire door?
The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 x 10 feet and pairs up to 8 x 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front are the marks that show the listing. The lock is also tested and certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 security and operational, and the electrified functions carry UL19X listing for single-point locking.
9) What is the closest electrified mortise lock to the Schlage L9092EU if I need electric unlock on a storeroom opening?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is the nearest peer. It is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in a storeroom function. The Schlage L9092EU differs in that it auto-detects 12/24VDC rather than running a single 24V supply, draws 400mA, and its function keeps the inside lever always free for egress with outside cylinder override. Both are heavy duty mortise locks, so the decision usually comes down to whether your power supply and access control head end are set up for 12V or 24V, and whether you need the outside key override the L9092EU provides.
10) I need a Grade 1 electrified mortise lock on a 1-3/4 inch door but not from Schlage. What else works?
The SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control rated for 1-3/4 inch doors, the same door thickness the Schlage L9092EU is built for. The L9092EU is also Grade 1 and accepts either 12 or 24VDC. The functional split is latch retraction versus lever control: the SDC 7600 retracts the latch by motor, while the L9092EU electrically locks or unlocks the outside lever and retracts the latchbolt by key outside or lever inside.
11) What electrified mortise lock should I use for a behavioral health or institutional opening instead of the L9092EU?
The Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis in an asylum/institution/utility function, which is the pattern normally specified where both sides need to be key controlled. The Schlage L9092EU keeps the inside lever always free for immediate egress, which is the opposite requirement. If you want to stay in the Schlage L Series for a behavioral health opening, the series offers Gold Standard ligature resistant trim as an option.
12) Will the Longitude levers on this Schlage mortise lock match my Von Duprin exit devices?
They do. All L Series levers, Longitude included, suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT. That matters when you are trying to keep one lever design running across entry doors on exit devices and interior mortise openings in the same building.
13) Does the Schlage L9092EU meet ADA and BAA requirements for a government or school project?
Both are covered. The L Series meets ADA requirements and meets the Buy American Act. It also carries Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings, and all levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code. Note one grade caveat for the spec writer: with interchangeable core cylinders the assembly is Grade 2 security, while a concealed shell cylinder holds A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security.
14) How is the Schlage L9092EU different from a motorized latch retraction mortise lock like the SDC 7600?
Different job. The L9092EU controls the outside lever electrically, the latchbolt still gets pulled mechanically by the lever or key, and it draws 400mA on 12 or 24V DC. A motor latch retraction lock such as the SDC 7600 Series, a Grade 1 mortise lockset on 24VDC, actually retracts the latch under power, which is what you want when the door also has to free-swing under an operator or be released remotely without anyone touching the lever. Command Access offers the same idea in the LPM190-M-EU-CH, a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in storeroom function.
15) Is the Schlage L9092EU heavy duty enough for a school or hospital corridor?
It is a heavy duty commercial mortise lock, Grade 1, with a cold rolled steel case finished in zinc dichromate plating. Security features include a blocking hub that stops picking by pulling the levers off, and the auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt once the door closes so the latch cannot be loided. For behavioral health spaces Schlage also offers ligature resistant trim on the L Series.
16) I need a solenoid or clutch style electrified mortise lock instead. What else is there?
A few directions. The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch for 1-3/4 inch doors, which handles abuse on the outside lever. DynaLock's EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function. Command Access has the ML04EU in asylum/institution/utility function for correctional and institutional openings, and the ML1080LB heavy duty storeroom chassis. Compared to those, the L9092EU keeps both cylinder override outside and free inside egress with RX signaling.
17) Can I key the Schlage L9092EU into my existing Schlage master key system?
Yes, with the right cylinder choice. The standard conventional cylinder is a 6-pin in the C keyway, and you can order keyed alike across a group of locks or keyed different. If your building runs on interchangeable cores, take the J option, which arrives FSIC prepped less core so your existing cores go straight in. Special keyway or keying instructions can be given at order time. For a higher security cylinder, the UL437 listed Primus 20-500 Series is the option to specify.
18) Is the SDC 7800 PRO a substitute for the Schlage L9092EU?
They serve similar electrified mortise openings but are not interchangeable. The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage L9092EU is a motor-driven electrified function that auto-detects 12 or 24VDC at 400mA, with outside cylinder override and a free inside lever. If free-wheeling vandal resistance on the outside trim is the driver, note that Schlage offers a Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option on most L Series functions including electrified. Prep, trim, and wiring differ between the two, so neither drops into the other's mortise pocket without checking templates.
19) I only need the lock chassis, not a complete lockset with levers and cylinder. What should I order instead of the L9092EU?
Command Access offers chassis-only electrified mortise options: the LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis with 24VDC operation, and the ML1080LB heavy-duty storeroom function mortise lock chassis. Both are chassis products, which suits a retrofit where the existing trim and cylinder stay in the door. The Schlage L9092EU is supplied as a complete lockset with a Longitude lever, rose or escutcheon selection, and a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the S123 keyway, so it is the choice when the trim is being replaced as well.
20) Does the DynaLock EML-1 do the same job as the Schlage L9092EU?
No. The DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in a storeroom function, where the outside lever is fixed and the key retracts the latch. The Schlage L9092EU is a fail secure electrified function where the outside lever is electrically locked or unlocked by 12 or 24VDC, with outside cylinder override and the inside lever always free. If your access control system needs to release the outside lever on a credential, the L9092EU function is what that call requires; the EML-1 addresses a straightforward storeroom opening.
21) I have a 24V power supply already on the door. Do I have to switch to a 24V-only lock?
No. The Schlage L9092EU auto-detects 12V or 24V DC and draws 400mA, so a 24V supply works without changing the lock. Peers such as the Command Access LPM110ECH and the SDC 7600 Series are specified for 24VDC operation, which is fine on a 24V supply but ties you to that voltage if the panel is later changed. If you are standardizing a facility across mixed power supplies, the dual voltage detection on the L9092EU is the practical difference.
22) What finish and rose options can I get on the L9092EU Longitude lever?
Nine finishes: bright brass 605, satin brass 606, antique brass 609, satin bronze 612, oil rubbed bronze 613, matte black 622, bright chrome 625, satin chrome 626 and satin stainless 630. Trim comes as A or B wrought rose, L full face escutcheon, or N escutcheon. The escutcheon designs cover more of the door face, which is worth choosing if you are replacing an older mortise lock and want to hide previous prep marks.
