1) Will the Schlage S70 classroom lock fit a 2-3/8 inch backset, or do I need to order it for 2-3/4?
Either. The S70 ships with the 16-203 dual backset latch, so the same lock adjusts to a 2-3/8 inch or a 2-3/4 inch backset with no separate part to specify. The latch face is 1 x 2-1/4 inches, square corner, with a 7/8 inch housing diameter. If the door is prepped for a 1-1/8 inch latch face, the A501-878 adapter is included, and the G506-815 sleeve covers a 1 inch bore for the latch housing.
2) What door thickness does the Schlage S70 lever lock work on?
1-3/8 to 2 inches. That covers the standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door and the thinner 1-3/8 inch interior doors common in older apartment and office stock, so the S70 usually goes onto existing openings without a shim or a spacer kit.
