The HOM48L125GC has 4 spaces and is rated for 8 circuits, which means you get 8 poles only if you fill all four spaces with Homeline tandem breakers. Four tandems is the maximum the panel accepts. Run full-size single-pole or two-pole breakers instead and you are limited to 4 poles total in the can.
2) Can I use this Homeline 125A load center as a main service panel?
No. The HOM48L125GC is a main lug panel, Fixed Mains (lugs), so there is no main breaker in it. Feeders land on lugs. Use it as a subpanel fed from an upstream breaker, or as a service panel only where separate service disconnect means are provided ahead of it. If you need the disconnect in the box, order a main breaker load center instead.
3) Will the Homeline 8-circuit load center fit between studs on 16-inch centers?
Yes. The enclosure measures 14.8 x 8.9 x 3.82 inches, so the 14.8 inch dimension clears a 14-1/2 inch stud bay and the 3.82 inch depth sits inside a 2x4 wall with the cover flush to the drywall. The combination flush/surface cover lets you either recess it in the bay or hang it on the face of a finished wall or block.
4) Is a 10 kA short circuit rating enough for this panel as a subpanel?
The HOM48L125GC is rated 10 kA short circuit current. That covers typical residential and light multi-family subpanel locations downstream of the service. 6) Can this Homeline load center be installed outside or in a wet location?
No. It is an indoor load center with a welded sheet steel enclosure and no weatherproof rating stated. Keep it inside conditioned or dry space. For an exterior wall, a meter pedestal, or a pool equipment pad, use a rainproof outdoor-rated load center.
7) Does the Square D Homeline HOM48L125GC come with a ground bar, and do I need a neutral kit?
A grounding bar ships with the panel but it is not installed, so budget a few minutes to mount it in the can. The neutral is part of the assembly.
