SDC’s 1590 series electromagnetic sliding door locks are compact locks with 850lbs of holding power packed into a small
steel mortise case. The lock is ideal for securing sliding or swinging, manual or automatic doors. Its durability for high frequency use and its mortise installation make it the choice of specification writers, owners and architects.
With only two parts, the lock mortised in the frame and the armature in the door, the lock secures the door in a closed position. When power is cut the lock releases instantly. When used with industrial sliding doors, two locks may be used to provide up to 1700lbs of holding power.

SDC 1591U – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the holding force of the SDC 1590 series electromagnetic sliding door locks?
The SDC 1590 series provides 850 pounds of holding force. This strength handles most commercial sliding door applications including glass storefronts and aluminum entrances.
2) What door types are compatible with SDC 1590 electromagnetic locks?
These locks work with sliding glass doors, aluminum storefront doors, and metal sliding doors. Verify door weight and frame material compatibility. Check manufacturer specifications for your specific door system.
3) How do electromagnetic sliding door locks operate?
The electromagnetic lock engages when powered, creating magnetic force between the lock body and armature plate. Door releases instantly when power is removed through access control or emergency release.
4) What voltage does the SDC 1590 series require?
Most SDC 1590 models operate on 12VDC or 24VDC. Check specific model voltage requirements. Use appropriately rated power supply with adequate current capacity for reliable operation.
5) Are these locks suitable for fire-rated doors?
Verify fire rating compatibility with manufacturer documentation. Many electromagnetic locks require fail-safe operation for fire doors. Consult local fire marshal and review building codes before installation.
6) What mounting hardware is included with SDC 1590 locks?
Basic mounting brackets and hardware are typically included. Specific sliding door applications may require additional brackets or mounting plates. Review installation template before ordering.
7) How do I install electromagnetic locks on sliding doors?
Mount lock body to fixed frame and armature plate to moving door panel. Ensure proper alignment for maximum holding force. Follow manufacturer template for precise positioning and wire management.
8) What access control systems work with SDC 1590 locks?
These locks integrate with card readers, keypads, push buttons, and building automation systems. Requires relay or switching device rated for lock voltage and current draw.
9) Do electromagnetic locks require regular maintenance?
Clean lock face and armature plate quarterly to remove dirt and debris. Check alignment and mounting hardware annually. Inspect wiring connections for corrosion or looseness during routine service.
10) What other SDC electromagnetic lock models are available?
SDC offers various holding force ratings and mounting configurations. Browse our electromagnetic locks category for swing door and specialty applications.
11) Can I adjust the holding force on SDC 1590 locks?
Holding force is fixed at 850 pounds and cannot be adjusted. Proper alignment between lock face and armature plate ensures maximum holding strength. Gaps reduce effective holding force.
