1) Will the Securitron M32 maglock hold a door against someone pushing hard on it?
The M32 Magnalock develops 600 lbs of holding force, which Securitron positions for traffic control rather than attack resistance. It is recommended for openings where physical assault on the door is not expected: access controlled interior rooms, storage areas, hallways, and secure areas inside a building perimeter. If the opening is an exterior door or a perimeter you expect someone to attack, you want a higher holding force magnet, not the M32.
2) What is the difference between the M32, M32B, M32D and M32BD Magnalock models?
The suffixes are the monitoring options. Plain M32 is the lock with no monitoring. M32B adds BondSTAT, a magnetic bond sensor that tells your access control panel the armature is actually bonded to the magnet, not just that power is applied. M32D adds an integrated door position switch, which reports whether the door is closed. M32BD carries both. An F in the model (M32F, M32FB, M32FD, M32FBD) means face drilled instead of the standard direct mount. Pick the monitoring first, then decide on face drilling.
3) What voltage and current does the Securitron M32 maglock need from my power supply?
Automatic dual voltage: it runs on either 12VDC or 24VDC with no jumper to set. Draw is 300mA at 12VDC and 150mA at 24VDC. Size the supply on the 12V figure if you are running 12V, and remember a maglock is continuous duty, so that current is drawn the whole time the door is locked. Ten feet of jacketed stranded conductor comes off the lock for the run back to the supply.
4) Can a Securitron M32 Magnalock be used on an exterior door or an unheated garage?
Yes. The M32 is built for indoor and outdoor traffic control, with fully sealed electronics that are tamper proof and weatherproof, and all ferrous metal surfaces plated to MIL specification. Operating range is -40 to +140F (-40 to +60C), so a loading dock, an unheated garage, or a northern exterior opening are all within range. The limit is force, not weather: at 600 lbs it is not intended for an opening you expect to be physically attacked.
5) Does the M32 maglock unlock instantly when the fire alarm drops power?
It does. The M32 uses Securitron's patented instant release circuit, so there is no residual magnetism holding the armature after power is cut. That matters on an egress opening tied to a fire alarm relay or a request to exit device, where a magnet that stays tacky for a second or two after power drops is a real problem. The M32 is UL 10C Listed and California State Fire Marshal approved.
6) What certifications does the Securitron M32 Magnalock carry for a code inspection?

7) Do I need a face drilled M32 Magnalock, and what does face drilled mean?
Face drilled means the mounting holes go through the visible face of the magnet body rather than being concealed behind it. You choose it when the frame or header you are mounting to will not let you use the standard blind mounting method. The standard M32 mounts with steel machine screws into blind finishing nuts, which leaves no exposed fastener heads on the magnet face. Face drilled versions are M32F, M32FB, M32FD and M32FBD, and each mirrors the monitoring choices of the non-drilled models.
8) How much space does the Securitron M32 take up on the door frame header?
The magnet body measures 1-7/8 x 1-5/8 x 1/2 inches, so it is a compact block on the header rather than the long full-size magnet people picture when they hear maglock. They answer different questions. A door position switch only tells you the door is closed. BondSTAT is a magnetic bond sensor: it reports whether the armature is genuinely magnetically bonded to the lock, so it catches a door that is shut but not actually secured, a misaligned armature, or a magnet losing hold. For a monitored access control system where the head end needs to trust the secure signal, BondSTAT is the one to specify. Order M32BD if you want both bond and position reporting on one lock.
10) Is the Securitron M32 maglock a stainless finish that will match the rest of my door hardware?
The M32 comes in one finish, architectural brushed stainless steel, US32D/630. That is the standard satin stainless used on most commercial door hardware, so it lines up with typical exit devices, closers and pulls on the same opening. There is no other finish option on the M32; if the exposed magnet body does not suit the space, dress covers are available as an accessory.
11) Is the M32 Magnalock suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential lock?
