1) How much holding force does the Securitron M82 Magnalock have, and what is it meant for?
1800 lbs [816 kg] of holding force. That puts the M82 at the top of the Magnalock range, and it's the reason it turns up on prison and detention openings and on large high-security gates rather than on an ordinary office interior door. It's a surface mounted electromagnetic lock, heavy duty and Grade 1, built for interior, perimeter and exterior access control. If you're securing a standard interior door in a low-risk building, this is more lock than the opening needs.
2) Do I need to set the M82 maglock for 12V or 24V when I wire it?
No field adjustment. The M82 is automatic dual voltage, so it senses and runs on either 12VDC or 24VDC as wired. Current draw is 350mA at 12VDC and 200mA at 24VDC, which is the number to size your power supply and battery backup against.
